Question about LG 42LC2D 42 in. LCD HDTV
The only way to fix this is to replace the whole LCD Panel. LG LCD panels are usually cheaper to replace but still will usually cost you about $500-700 for a 42" LCD panel plus labor depending on the service center you choose. Will not be covered by and manufacture's or extended warranty because of physical damage. Use wrist strap to prevent this problem in the future.

SOURCE: Cracked LCD
I had one broken a few months ago. I got a couple quotes.. it was about $200 less then a brand new one. I'd just buy a new one.
For the new TV I'd pickup a screen protector for it. My son threw a toy at my TV the other day and I nearly had a heart attack from the flashbacks. Thank God I picked up one of these a few weeks earlier. It stopped it. LCD screens really break easily as you know. http://www.tv-armor.com
