Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

Will not release ice and makes crushed ice, even when on cubed.

My GE side by side creates a big block of ice where the ice drawer and dispenser chute meet. Eventually the block of ice gets so big that it scrapes whenever the door is opened or closed. Water works fine, but no ice gets through the flapper. Instead it will just build up in the dispenser and then overflow.

Problem was identified by Seabreeze on this post.Thank you very much for your time and help. He is a true professional !! The problem I had was the solenoid which opens and closes the ice chute. It was very corroded and therefore could not function as designed, which wouldn't allow the chute door to close fully and allowed warm air into the freezer, causing an ice dam to form. I removed the front panel from my fridge, exposing the solenoid. It has a metal pin coming out of the top, which pulls down on a plastic lever, opening the chute door. I removed the solenoids 3 mounting screws and took out the solenoid. I found the pin to be corroded and sticking inside the solenoid. I removed the pin and cleaned it up with a wire wheel on my bench grinder. I applied a small amount of never-seez to the pin and reinstalled everything.Works like new again!!!

Ok I am trying to understand this correctly. The ice maker continues to make ice even when it it supposed to stop. Or the water is leaking into the ice maker while the ice maker is in the process of making a batch of ice? If this is happening while the ice maker is in between cycles that is either a leaking water control valve for the side of the solenoid that controls the water flow to the ice maker. Or the defrost element under the ice maker is stuck on and telling the thermostat that the water should refill the ice maker. Now, check that theory and correct me if I misunderstand. I will be back as soon as I look over the diagram for your model. Sea Breeze

I believe in your case the ice maker part number WR30X10093 being electronic with the control board in the front is the problem. I think the control board behind the front cover of the ice maker may have corrosion and causing the ice maker to malfunction. You can try disconnecting the set of wires to the coil on the water control valve and see if the water stops or turn off the ice maker first and try disconnecting the coil wires later. It has to be the control board or the water control valve part number WR57X10032

Does your Ice door open when the dispenser button is pressed? Can you clean it out and manually hold the door light switch closed while pressing the dispenser button and see the flap open. The solenoid may be stuck shut letting the ice build up and open just enough for warm air to be pulled in and freeze the ice solid before the door can open and drop the ice. Sea Breeze

There is a solenoid in the rear near the auger motor that when the control is switched to cubes or crushed moves a lever that changes the auger blades to crushed or cubes. I have totally missed your point all along and my apologies. Can you remove the auger pan and press the door switch in at the same time you press the dispense button and switch to cubes the solenoid should shift a lever to chang th auger blades to crush or cubed ice. The only way to check this is while holding the door light switch in as if the door is closed. and change the crushed to cubes and watch to see if the lever is moving.

You have a ice chute door that is not closing all the way. Quick way for a "non-tech" to check chute, open door to freezer, clean all ice build up out of chute, stuff it full of paper toweles, make sure no air can get around the paper towels. close door, then chek same area in about three to four days, if ice buildup is gone then you need an ice chute door repair kit. Common problem, nothing major.

If you still have the same amount of ice to the point that paper towels have ice around them then you may have a leaky door. Another subject all together.

Need full model and serial number to advise right part numbers.

Ice cube stuck on crush

remove the ice bin, there must be a chunk of ice blocking the cubed dispenser chute of the dispenser and channeling all ice thru the chopper chute, run hot water thru it to melt any chunks blocking the cube chute, then dry it and let it get cold before filling with new ice or you will have the same issue again

Dispenses crushed ice instead of cube ice

You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components

GE Monogram refrigerator icemaker problem

This is normal if you have previously used the crushed ice mode. The refrigerator will continue to dispense crushed ice for some time until the reserves are depleted. If this continues for a longer period then shut down the refrigerator and remove the dispenser compartment, clean any remaining ice and reinstall it. Start the power supply and wait 5 hours for the ice to form. Use the cube mode and you will surely obtain ice cubes.

Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator Wont dispense ice

if you lift out the ice bucket you will see the "gear" that turns the auger. The gear is metal but the part on the bucket is plastic and this can become stripped out. Also check that there is not ice frozen around the bottom of the bucket where an ice cube may have lodged the chute door partially open and melted some of the ice in the bottom creating a blockage.
