Question about Palm m515 Handheld

1 Answer

How do I dispose of a Palm m515?

I've used my Palm m515 for several years now and it seems to be dying. Also, I used it with an old computer, and I recently bought a new one. When I connected my Palm, all the data disappeared. Also my new computer stated that it cannot support this Palm.
I think I need to dispose of it. If so, what is the safest way to do so?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Its likely the battery has just gone bad .. a new battery is not expensive but you need a small torx tool to get it open .. the m515 is still a nice machine for some, so donating it to Goodwill or other charity will do a lot of good for several people .. you can just drop it off at most places.. put everything in a box so it doesnt get seperated ..

the data is only retained if the battery is charged unless you have an SD card inserted ... take out any SD cards .. you can probably fire the m515 up on its charger stand even if it has a bad battery ... that will allow you to check for anything left over ... if it doesnt fire up then you can do a reset ... a hard reset erases everything and restores the machine to normal operation .. on the m515 the stylus (pen) comes apart .. the end opposite the point unscrews .. that gives you a narrow probe that can be used to reset the unit .. the reset button is at the center top on the back of the unit inside a little hole .... its marked "reset" ... that should get it working if its on a charger or even the battery if its charged and thats all thats wrong .. just pushing the reset button will reboot your palm .. if you hold the power button when you do a reset then it gives you a choise to "erase everything ?" if you select that then thats a hard reset and everything will be gone .

How do you turn on the Palm m515

the palm m515 has a button at the top right corner .. hitting the button quickly will turn the unit on or off ... holding the button for 2 seconds will turn the display backlight on or off ... if the unit fails to start then you can do a reset .. thats like a reboot .. the top of the stylus unscrews ... that gives you a little probe that you can use to push the reset button on the back top center ... if the battery is bad you can still run the machine with the charger hooked up ..

Do I need software to sync my new palm m515 with my laptop pc?

HI,
Yes you will need to install the Palm Desktop software on your computer or your laptop. Here is a link to the Palm Support site where you can download the software that you need. If you need any other help please let me know. Best wishes.

Softwares required

Sorry, but Palm is not providing an upgrade (at least for the M515 model) to a newer Palm OS (from the 4.1 that you already have). Palm is not known for supporting older products (yours dates back to about 2002).

As for bluetooth - the unit does have an SD card slot, and there are SD Bluetooth adapters made, but I don't know if they would work with OS 4.1 (and neither does Palm). Additionally, the cheapest I found after a quick search was $117 bucks. For a little more money than that, you can buy a new Palm, with OS 5.0, and bluetooth built-in. Wish I had better news for you...

Cheers
Nick

Palm M515 hot sync problem

I have a similar problem with my m515. I have 3 palms and 2 sync fine but the 3rd isn't even getting to the computer. There is no recognition from the computer that the palm is trying to sync even though I use the same cradle for all palms. The ensuing message is, "the connection between your handeld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again". My settings are set Local and Cradle/Cable.

I was having a similar problem with my M515.  I had originally installed the Palm Desktop from my CD, which was an older version.  When I totally uninstalled the old version and installed the newer version from the Palm website I was able to do a successful sync.  I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate and Palm Desktop version 4.1.4
