Question about HP LaserJet 4650 Color Printer

HP 4650 hangs at initializing

Just like the person who posted, my HP laser jet 4650 boots up, successfully tests the RAM and then gets hung up initializing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had heard that the network card could be an issue so I tried that already, and the printer still hangs when booting. So I found a used formatter on eBay for only $20, and I'm going to try to replace that by myself. The MidCom Data repair people wanted $290 minimum in labor charges and listed the part at $1000. Yikes.

Remove the jetdirect network card. Then power it on and see if it goes ready. If it does then it could be a fault with the jetdirect card

New memory, the board just beeps

First of all that board supports DDR400 (PC3200) so why did you get PC2100 chips?

Anyway, do a bare minimum test (only MB, CPU, RAM & PSU connected, nothing else). Remove all the RAM and test each one individually. Properly insert one into the first RAM slot and test by booting until the POST RAM test is finished. Shutdown and repeat the test with the same RAM module in slot 2 and keep repeating this for every slot. If successful in every slot, mark that module as working then try the other RAM modules using the same procedure.

  • As soon as you find one that doesn't fully pass the POST test, mark it as faulty.
  • If some pass in one slot but not another, then mark it as faulty.
  • If they all fail to pass on a specific slot, mark that slot as faulty and don't use it (you can use electrical tape to cover the slot for future reference).

Once you've finished the bare minimum test, try 2 RAM modules this time (use only the modules that you found to be working from the above tests). Mix and match the RAM modules & then try 3 together and even 4 (if you found all of them to be working fine).

Finally once you're satisfied you've found the modules that work properly, boot with memtest and test the RAM for any problems. If they all seem to work fine individually, boot them individually and test with memtest to determine which ones are actually faulty.

AT POST motherboard hang at INITIALIZING USB.....

Several things you can try:
  • Remove the CMOS battery leave for 10 minutes and re-insert and try to reboot
  • If this fails to solve the issue, check the BIOS (F2 on boot) and disable USB legacy support
  • Then if that fails, try swapping out the RAM modules until you manage to get a successful boot.
  • If you suceed in this, download memtest and check the integrity of the ram modules, it may be you have an intermittently faulty ram module.
  • If this fails, it is likely that the USB controllers on the motherboard are damaged

This is for a HP Laser Jet 4. I have had it for years and it has worked well. Now on an erratic basis, paper gets hung up sometimes only partially coming through (with wrinkles at the end) other times it...

Symptoms: Your HP LaserJet 4/4M is constantly jamming at the back of the printer. Sometimes the paper is folded like an accordion. Other times the paper has a big curl on the bottom

Hi ntamayo,

Message "card slot not initialized

The HP Color LaserJet 4650 printer also has three flash memory card slots for printer firmware, fonts, and other solutions. The HP Color LaserJet 4610n does not include any available flash memory card slots.
■ The first CompactFlash slot is reserved for printer firmware.
NOTE Use the first flash memory card slot for firmware only. The slot is marked “Firmware Slot.”
■ The two additional CompactFlash memory slots in the HP Color LaserJet 4650 printer enable the user to add fonts and third-party solutions, such as signatures and personalities. The slots are marked "Slot 2" and "Slot 3."
--- These card slots are located inside the Formater unit. Most likely you either are missing the firmware card or it's defective.
Hope this helps!
good luck!
