go to the start menu and find iexplorer and right click and select "create desktop shortcut". If you cant find it in the start menu, the open the search menu and search "explorer", find the file with the extension .exe and set that one to the desktop. If you want to get rid of the shortcut arrow on the icon then right click the icon and go to properties, then you can change the icon to anything you want from there!!!! sry about that, i pasted over my post on accident, try hitting the del button repeatedly as soon as the system begins to boot and go from there.........This should produce some audible alerts but do worry......if you still don't get into the bios setup then you can remove the the battery on the motherboard that looks like a big watch battery.....this will reset you bios completely...................you will have to reset the time and date afterwards but will return your system bios to manufacture default and is guaranteed to give you access to the bios setup menu

Good Luck and pls rate this post!!!!!

My laptop is not allowing me to install OS (windows) i suggest mayb its bios securities now how can i remove the security

A) DO NOT post your email address. It's in the FixYa T.O.S.
(Terms of Service)

(Plus it's a worldwide forum. You are opening your email to all sorts of spam)

B) Are you trying to install the SAME operating system?
Example: Windows XP over Windows XP?

Primer:
Windows does not like to be written over. A type of security.
It definitely does not like the SAME O/S being written over it.

(Same version and build)

Go to BIOS Setup, and to Boot Options.
In Boot Options make sure CDROM is set as the first boot device.

CDROM will be at the top of the list.

SAVE changes.

Your computer will now boot off of whatever is in the optical drive.

Need laptop manufacturer name, and Model Number, to try to guide you in entering BIOS Setup.

{ OR,...as soon as you turn the laptop on look at the bottom of the monitor screen. Look for;

A) enter Setup, or
B) enter BIOS Setup, or
C) enter CMOS Setup

There will be a key on the Keyboard to press, that is stated next to the above. (Example: enter BIOS Setup/ Delete, or enter CMOS Setup/F2)

Once you see the key, (Screen goes by very f-a-s-t), restart the computer.
(Press the CTRL key, ALT key, and DELete key, AT THE SAME TIME, to restart the computer)

As SOON as the computer restarts, start tapping on the key.
(Tap in 2 second intervals. If you hear a beeping, ignore it.
It is a Stuck Key Error Code )

Post back with your findings in a Comment.

I have a gateway gx7022e windows xp computer. When i try to boot it up the white letters pop up then the screen goes to the gateway screen and freezes. Then my num lock comes on but my keyboard wont work....

At power on / power up, look for the key during the bootup (black screen with white text), that allows you to enter SETUP. If none designated such as F1, F2 F10 etc, then quickly click the delete button a few times and that may get you into setup. You may have to turn off the computer if you miss that window of time if it rfequires pressing the delete button a few times. Keep an eye out for the Enter Setup key though. To turn off the computer press and hold the power button 'till is shuts down and resart the process until you get to the setup screen in bios. In setup bios environment, look for set factory defaults and then save and restart. That may solve the issue of the lockup.

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

you need to either perform a repair install of windows or restore the machine from a restore disc.

how to perform a repair installation (windows xp)

insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter boot menu or bios, it will very likely be button F12 or similar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesn't, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS

here's some info on how to work the bios: solve boot cd issues, bios and boot order.

Repeat step 1 when you have changed the boot order.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

7.Ones windows is working you will need the drivers for your computer, they are at the makers website, for hp and compaq. www.hp.com for acer http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html for all other brands go to google and write Brand drivers. Should get you to the right place. Dell is most likely www.dell.com and so on.

I had got my comp formated once befor with windows

I will be happy to assist you with your problem

To format your computer back please follow the steps given

  • Backup. Just to be on the safe side in case you find that you have made a mistake of forgot to save something, you should always backup your data before formatting or wiping your disk clean. You can either copy your data files on to a CD or a flash drive or another hard drive.
  • Step 2 Restart. Shut down your computer and hit the appropriate key to go into your BIOS. A message will appear as the computer starts up telling you which key to hit to enter the BIOS (sometimes called Setup). Once in the BIOS, you need to go through the different sections until you find one that says something like "boot device order". Once in this menu use the appropriate labeled keys to select CD-ROM as the first boot device. Exit the BIOS and be sure to select save by pressing key f10. If your computer does not restart, please restart it again with your Windows XP CD in the CD drive.
  • Step 3 Start the setup. After Windows starts up it will display a message that says "press any key to boot from CD", press any key. Windows will start to load files and then will take you to a screen that asks you to install Windows or repair; press the "Enter" key. Press the "F8" key to accept the licensing agreement. If a Windows installation is detected it will prompt you to repair, just press the "Esc" key. Select the existing partition and press "D" to delete the partition. You may have to press "Enter" and then "L" to confirm that you want to delete the partition. The screen will then list the open partitions to create a new partition. Hit the "C" key to create a new partition where the previous one existed. The setup will ask you to pick a size for the new partition, it will automatically list the largest possible size. Hit "Enter" to accept this size. On the next screen, Windows will ask which partition you want to install Windows on. Pick the partition you just created. The next screen will offer several options to Format the partition. Select one of the options and hit "Enter".
  • Step 4 Install or restart. After the partition is formatted, you can install Windows again or you can turn off the computer and remove the CD. Your computer is now formatted. Go back to your BIOS and change the boot up order to hard drive first.
Thanks

Bios hangs

Reseat all cards in system, including the RAM. If it still does not boot try removing one stick of ram at a time to see if it boots. As well as removing extra cards.
