How do you change printer status from idle to ready?

It's idle because you're not printing anything. send something to print, and the status should change.

My printer is staying on idle

Printers do internal house chores prior to getting ready to print. so something is not getting done and the printer is waiting for that chore to get done they don't always give codes saying something is wrong. What has been done to the printer lately repaired? if so check all connections new unit re-install image units fuser etc.

Does not print. Asks for output file instead.

Hi,

The default printer is set to be "file". Here's what you must do:

- Go to printers dialogue box and right click on your printer name and selectd "Set s default printer"
 - Right click on printers name and chose Properties. then look for a check box saing something like "print to file" and unchek it.

This sould resolve the problem.
Best regards
