As the machine gets older, it may start to make other noises due to wear on the various parts. If the machine is working well, leave well enough alone.

I have a GE dishwasher GSD8000 (or something like that - I don't have the exact model info handy here - but it's about 19 years old, and has a digital display), and I got a C4 code beeping at me the other night, which indicates ''too much water''. This happens frequently, right after I refill the Jet Rinse dispenser. I surmise that the Jet Rinse causes the problem, but I don't know exactly why that is. But that's not the problem I bring here; the problem is that when I opened the door latch (a lever that you move to the left to open), it stuck in the open position. I turned off the power and took the inner door off to examine the latch, familiarized myself with its design and function, and then reinstalled it. It seemed to work fine, moving freely from left to right (open to closed position), and I restarted the dishwasher in the rinse cycle. Once again, the C4 error appeared, and the door latch, once opened, stayed stuck. I had to turn the power off to stop the beeping, because the ''Clear/Reset'' button was not clearing the error, and the beeping would not stop. My question is: Is there anything actually wrong with this latch, or does the dishwasher prevent the latch from closing when an error code is being displayed? I'm pretty confident the latch is installed properly, and that there is nothing wrong with it. Secondarily, if that is the case, what should I do about these C4 codes, and their likely linkage to filling the jet rinse dispenser?
