Divide 1500 by 240 to your CB size (looks like a 7-10 amp CB is needed)

The wire in my house for an elec. garage heater is 14 gauge wire with a 15 amp breaker. I assume i need at least 10 gauge wire with 20 amp .The heater is 20.9 amps and 3000-5000 watts, with 17500 BTUs


Curt, a 20 amp breaker will blow if you pull 10.9 amps from it. I suggest having a licensed electrician do your wiring. Likely, you need a permit anyway.

most water heater of that size is rated 240v, therefore it needs 2-pole. is it 240v rated? make sure you have a properly sized circuit breaker & matching conductors (wires) with the kw rating of the water heater

you said it says takes 110,im thinking that means 110volts
the might be flick switch near the power with 2 voltages 110v & 240v stick it on 240v, if not,then you need a transformer.

You'd need to supply a "Buck-Boost" transformer to do this properly. Technically, the 265 VAC is one hot leg and neutral of a 480 VAC 3 Phase Y system that measures 277 VAC. The 265 number comes from this:

265 is the standard nameplate voltage for a 277 volt motor or AC unit.

230 is standard name plate for 240.
200 is standard name plate for 208
460 is standard name plate for 480.
110 is standard name plate for 120.

Most electricians call the hot leg / neutral circuit "277V AC".

Some popular "Buck-Boost" transformers will convert 208 to 240 and 240 to 208 volt systems, and 240 to 277 and 277 to 240 volt systems - among many other variations. These are auto-transformers as the primary secondary windings share a connection. KVA ratings differ significantly from name plate because of this fact. You should contact a qualified electrician to not only size, but wire the transformer for you. Failure to install a Buck-Boost transformer - and running this unit on 240V AC mains will cause premature failure of motors - fans and compressor due to overheating. This can also result in a fire hazard.

I have an Electric Furnace rated at 45 Amps/240v. Would a 45 amp breaker suffice for this unit?


Most likely not.Heating equipment circuit breakers have to be calculated at 100% of the load continuous. That would mean the circuit breaker would have to be rated at 45amps continuous. Most breakers are not. Most breakers are rated at 80% of their rating for continuous loads. So if you installed a 60 amp circuit, 80% of 60 = 48 amps. This would fit your requirement. That would be a 60amp breaker, with #6 cu conductors.

My EH40 is not supplying power to the water heater. I hooked the power line in to posts 1 and 2 and I hooked the load out to posts 4 and 6. When I use my power checker it reads no power to posts 3,4,5,...

EH40 has a 240V clock.
Terminals 1 and 2 send power to the 240V clock
Power to the clock terminals do not pass through timer to any other terminal

How to wire EH40 for 240V
240V line has 2 hot wires from breaker box.
Lets call these wires Hot1 and Hot2
These wire are interchangeable on 240V circuit
Hot1 connects to terminal 1 with a jumper to terminal 3 (or connect to 3 and jumper to 1)
Hot2 connects to terminal 2 with a jumper to terminal 5 (or connect to 5 and jumper to 2)

240V circuit has 2 wires going to the Load
Let's call these Load1 and Load2
These wires are interchangeable on 240V circuit
Load1 connects to terminal 4
Load2 connects to terminal 6

If the timer is still not working, go back to the breaker and test if it is delivering 240V to the circuit.
If breaker is bad on one leg, then the circuit can test with live power, but the 240V appliance will not work.
240V circuit requires both legs of 240V before circuit is complete.

If your power suply is 240V and the power rating of the ovenis 9.9kw then the expected current consumption is 9900w/240v = 41.25A. Therefore this needs a 8mmsq cable or if not available in your area then use 10mmsq cable. And for the fuse or circuit breaker use 50A

I have3 light circuit and i need to put in a master switch to be able to turn them all on and i only have a standard mech.


If your light is on 110 (220) VAC, it is no problem.
If your lite circuits (12 VAC),  are the only load of a common transformer, you can stop the input to the transformer.
If your lights are powered by batteries or DC supply you must have DC circuit breaker with enough breaking capacity.

Can I use a 5 amp 240v AC domestic fuse to replace 5 amp 12v fuse


A fuse is rated for it's current carrying capacity so yes you can use a 240 volt 5 Amp fuse in a 12 Volt circuit.
The Voltage is given to indicate the insulation of the fuse, i.e. if you used a 12 volt fuse in a 240 Volt circuit it may arc and therefore is not suitable. You can always use a fuse with a higher voltage rating in a lower voltage rated circuit.
A 5 Amp fuse will carry 5 Amps indefinately and will only blow at 2 or three times it's rated current.

Using dryer in 220V country


There are two systems in use in the states
110v dryers are available that fit a standard 11v 15a socket
110/220v fit the oversize 'dryer' sockets, and they are two 110v phases 90 degreees apart
the motor runs of a single phase 110v.
there is 220v between the 'outside', the active lines of the two phases, at any time, but it is not useable to provide mechanical power as a single service, due to the complicated shape of the wave form when you add out of phase voltages together, but is ok to drive the heaters, they have no mechanical efficiency requirement
A 2 phase 110v heater it means 3kw can be supplied without a 30 amp circuit
but it becomes difficult to use a single phase 220-240v transformer to provide 2x110v 90degree 2 phase current unless you specially buy one in. .
High power applications in 220-240v are generally supplied by 415v 3 phase 60deg supplies,

Any transformer would be onsellable at the end of your posting, to your replacement, who would doubtless be in the same boat as you, with a heap of 'stuff' that needs to run.

UK Aus NZ may be sources of transformers, or dryers to suit.
check with Australian UK NZ suppliers as well as local Indian ones, as those countries are also nominal 240v single phase home suplies and they may have (1) the dryer, or (2)the transformer to suit the 110 2 phase dryer
