PS3 not taking disc

My PS3 (60 GB Balwards compatible) is not taking in the disc! (you can force it in, but this does no good.) When I start putting a disc inside, the blue light doesn't even come on, nor do I hear any noise whatsoever from the disc drive.  Actually, when i push the eject button, all i get is the two beeps that means no disc. But when i hold it down, i dont get any blue light! My only guess is that the drive itself isn't getting any power. However, i've taken it apart and made sure everything was put back together correctly. Maybe the power cord (cord from drive to motherboard) or the ribbon isn't working? I've tried many things but i dont know what else to do.
Oh also, I can access internet and menu and everything just fine, but i noticed that when i downloaded some demos and tried to play them, all I get is a black screen, and the ps3 freezes.
Any suggestions? Points in the right direction?

The ribbon is in the wrong way or broken, My PS3 is broken and won't accept games... It just blinks. The blue on the ribbon has to be facing the bottom of the PS3 not the Blu ray drive...

Can ps2 games be played on a ps3 and if yes how

Hi, the only ps3 that can play ps2 games is the 40gig one this is the only one they made that was backwards compatible you could also play ps1 games on this ps3, how ever they are hard to come by now and the only real place you can get one from is the well know auction site.
The other thing you could try would be to go into your nearest game shop and ask them if they can get a backwards compatible ps3 they are out their but are hard to come buy new.

their is also ways of changing the firmware on your ps3 to accept the old games how ever doing this is illegal and i cant give you any advice on this as its banned by the site, how ever if you use google and type in how do i make my ps3 backwards compatible this will then list loads of sites that can offer the help your looking for

How do you set up playstation 3 to play playstation 2 games

One Surefire WayThe only way how to play PS2 games on PS3 is to have the correct version of the console. Either your Playstation 3 can play PS and PS2 games or it can’t, and there’s not much to do about it. Most of the PS3 models simply cannot play older titles as they lack the necessary hardware and firmware. However, a few models do have backwards compatibility. The 20 Gb, 60 Gb, and original 80 Gb models all have backwards compatibility, either through hardware or software emulation. The other models lack backwards compatibility, so even knowing how to play PS2 games on PS3 won’t help you out much here.
However, if you do have the correct console model, then there isn’t much to know for learning how to play PS2 games on PS3. Simply insert the game CD or DVD (many original Playstation games are also supported thankfully), and the game will start up. Sometimes, it will tell you that you can’t play the game, but simply hook your PS3 up via wireless or ethernet connection and update the firmware (which also provides improved compatibility with newer versions of Blu-ray discs). Often, this will fix the problems, but not all PS and PS2 games are supported (although most are).
There you have it. Learning how to play PS2 games on PS3 is easy, but if you just randomly picked a Playstation 3 model out at your local retailer, you might have a model lacking in backwards compatibility. One reason they didn’t include such compatibility with all models is an issue of cost, as it saved Sony some money to not include such a feature on all of the models. When they first started selling PS3s for $400, they were losing several hundred dollars (although they are at least breaking even now). Unfortunately, both the new 80 Gb and 160 Gb PS3 models are lacking in such compatibility, so you’ll need to find older models to support your older games.

Please rate my solutions! =)

My son just put 2 dvds in ps3 and now they are stuck?

Try to press the Eject Button for 20 seconds and i think that will do a force eject
the other way is the paper-clip! Straightend a large paper clip, then with some needle-nose pliers created a tiny L-shaped hooked (about 3/16 or 1/8 of an inch). Inserted the hook side of the clip into the disc slot along the edge. Carefully moved the clip around until I located the hole in the disc, then gently pulled the disc out. Piece of cake, took about 2 minutes!

My 60 GB PS3 wont run PS2 games

Actually only 60GB PS3s supports PS2 games. But It requires particular firmware. In first instance try updating your system, then dissable the disc autoload function, insert PS2 game, and look at the game section if your soft will recognise it. If yes just try to play

Good luck

Backward Compatibility

Yes. To cut cost Sony offered the 40 GB but the system was not backwards compatible. By upgrading to 60 or 80 GB you will have compatibility. Check www.us.playstation.com to make sure the games you want to be compatible are listed.
