2000 Dodge Neon cutting out

I had a 2000 neon did the same thing. Ended up being the fuel pump.

I have replaced a ton of coils on these. And the PT Cruisers. Same engine.

coil pack's change them that should do it they get hot shut down cool off they are fine

i would check the switch itself. may be faulty.

If the car is not getting into passing gear at all, check the kickdown cable from the throttle body to the transmission, to see if it's broken or binding. Also check the throttle body itself for smooth operation.

If those are okay, then check the throttle position sensor for proper output voltage. That should have thrown error code 24 if it failed.

As you pointed out, your engine has a rev limiter to prevent engine overspeed. As you approach redline rpm's, it will cut the fuel supply. If this is happening at lower rpm's than it should, then the limiter itself could be in trouble.

vacuum leak at the air duct on throttle body or tps sensor.

sounds like fuel pump cutting out ,if car runs poorly at idle when this happens you can try hitting gas tank with the side of a hammer and see if engine runs good again if so fuel pump going bad sooon!best test is with a fuel pressure gauge watched while driving to ck for f/p drop off

when you drive it for a while does the temperature gauge seem to be pretty high or no?

It is the Intake Air Control motor (IAC Motor). Replaced mine and have not had any other problems.
