Dell Inspiron 1440 keyboard keys issue

Various keys on the Dell Inspiron 1440 keyboard do not work the first time I type them. I keep having to go back and hit the key again because the letter didn't display the first time I typed it. It's getting rather annoying and I was wondering what may be causing this. It is not just a couple keys, but the entire keyboard and it keeps happening randomly.

You need to isolate this issue first.
where are you typing? inside IE or in MSWord?
If both has issues then try typing in the DOS Command Window. If same issue try to boot in safe mode and check if you will still be getting same issue in safe mode. If all yes try to check the bios and update it by downloading the latest bios version from the support site from dell.

Alt+0241

On Windows, the Alt key functions as a modifier like the Shift key. To make special characters, hold down the Alt key and type in the numbers from the numeric keypad. Note that on the some small keyboards (e.g. laptop keybaords) the “numeric keypad” is found by pressing the NumLock key and then looking for the keys on your keyboard that double as numeric keypad keys when in NumLock mode.

I use dell inspiron 1440 notebook. There is no no. lock key on my keyboard. I can not use alt key on ms word. How can I use numeric and alt key ?

Although there is no num lock button on the keyboard, it can still be turned on - either via external keyboard or the onscreen keyboard in windows. However, the keyboard on this notebook does not have keys which are dedicated to become number keys when numlock is on, so it wouldn't impact usage of the keyboard in the slightest.

One week old inspiron 1440 "l" key won't type. any solutions I can try at home

try another known keyboard if you can get that key to type then you know for sure the keyboard is defective and would need to be replaced. You can try taking a can of air and blowing out the dust from the keys to be sure its not a dirt problem.

Dell inspiron keyboard issue?

There is a keystroke combo that enables or disables those keys.
They should work. Can't remember the keystroke, but it's a FN plus one of the keys--should be a symbol on the keyboard.

If it is still under warranty just call Dell and have them send a replacement keyboard. If not, either try cleaning her laptop keyboard or just pick up a new one off some place like ebay for about $10.00 with free shipping.

Dell Inspiron 1300 Keyboard Lag

There is a program that is bundled with Dell machines called the Dell Media Experience. It runs on startup and has been known to cause issues with keyboards and typing speeds etc..... I found that by turning this off via MSConfig the problems associated with my keyboard went away.
Hope this helps.
Start - Run - MSconfig - Start up - Untick PCMService. O.K and restart.
