Not booting, then shuts down?

I have an acer notebook aspire 5100, with phoenix bios(the rest is unimportant since it wont even start up!)

basically, i get a blank screen when i turn it on. no bios, no hard drive activity, but the hardware does get powered(i can hear it).

umm.. now, it shuts itself down after roughly 2-3 seconds after i power it on, still blank

Re: not booting, then shuts down?

It seems that you have voltage problem in the mainboard. if you can access your processor try reseting it by taking off the heatsink then reset the processor and also reset the cmos battery.

Re: not booting, then shuts down?

I had the same problem. The computer is getting to hot. I opened the case and removed and cleaned the fan. It was full of lint thus keeping the fan from cooling.

Usb ports wont work

Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, and Device Manager. Look for serial ports/USB ports. Verify installed and active. If not, go to Bios 'setup' at start-up and activate from there. Be sure to save and exit even if you change nothing--otherwise everything returns to default.

My Acer Aspire 5100 wont start up correctly

Try removing the battery and connecting the AC adapter then see if it boots up.
Reinstall the battery and keep the AC adapter connected and see if it boots up, if so leave it charge the battery for several hours.
If none of these work, get a replacement as there is a more segnificant problem.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Your harddisk MBR sector might be damaged, google fix mbr and resetup your harddisk mbr. After that it most likely will boot.
