You will need to install Garmin Mapsource and then upload your Map to your PC you will be able to save waypoints and transfer POI (points of interest) to you satnav.

You will need to register for an account and also your unit ID on the back at myGarmin

Hope this helps.

I have received the lifetime update card for my Garmin 255W. Now what do I do next? Apparently I need a username & password. Where do I do that?

When you register your satnav at you select a username and password. If you haven't already done so you'll need to connect your satnav to your pc to register it. If you have and have forgotten the username and password you'll have to contact Garmin Support. Contact details are at;jsessionid=451C4302E8469EEE9E7F2C9DABE2DD6D

My garmin cannot start

Hi there... If you mean it doesn't do anything when you push/slide the on button, then try this... (mine did the same thing just yesterday and was a result of a very low battery - would not even start with 12v cord in from the car!)...

Find the USB cable that came with your Garmin. Hook the USB cable to your computer, with the other end hooking up to your Garmin (where the normal car cable goes).

The Garmin will probably turn on instantly once you have hooked it up to your PC (assuming the PC is turned on and in Windows etc). This will actually charge the Garmin battery too while hooked up the PC, so leave it connected for a little while (a couple of hours).

If it doesnt switch on automatically when connected to the PC, try using the slide ON switch. Once it is active, it will be in PC transfer mode (assuming you have an SD card in the card slot of the Garmin). Now is a good time to use the Garmin WebUpdate application (available from to see if any software updates are available for your unit. If so, go ahead and install them. I updated mine yesterday!

Once you get it working via connection to the PC and the battery has charged up a little, take it back to the car and keep the 12v car cable plugged in all the time. This will continue to charge it up as it is being used (while the car is running of course). You should find that after u get it working on the PC it will again work in the car too...

i think it just turns it off for some reason permanently when it gets a really low/dead battery and only the PC hookup seems to re-activate it... Also, apparently you can hold the slide switch on the Garmin in the ON position for 7 seconds to reset the unit, but that didn't work for me... Worth a try anyway!

I purchased a Garmin nuvi 200 and registered it 12/22/08. I would like to update it on line. How do I go about it. I need a tech to help me.

First, you need to have a USB cable that connects between your PC and your Nuvi. Next, go to and download their webupdater program onto your PC. Next, Connect the USB cable between your PC and Nuvi and run then run the webupdater program. Garmin will scan your Nuvi and then you will be prompted for various selection of updates.
