There is a capacitor connected on the fan motor it must be broken. The explanation is a bit technical but since your description match on my previous experience, I would conclude that it is really the cause of your problem.

How much the capacitor cost ? I have four fans installed and six months before when the fan was under warranty one fan has similar issue and the tech guy order the new capacitor and remote and once it shipped he fixed it.

Now other fan . I am suspecting that this cycle will continue for other two fans as well. After spending good amount of money for this fancy fan I am sad to see it does not live upto a regular fan.

Hello, I replaced a light fixture on my existing Emerson ceiling fan. The light worked right away but the blades didn't turn. I could hear power going to the motor so I went back into the switch cup and...

Signs of a bad capacitor in a ceiling fan include:

  • Fan runs slowly or not at all on all speeds
  • Fan will not start but will spin if started by hand
  • Certain speeds are slow or do not work
  • The motor hums and turns freely by hand but will not spin

The capacitor is usually a black box inside the switch housing of the fan. If this box appears burnt or melted in any way, that is also the sign of a bad capacitor and it should be replaced.

    have a good day !!

Can hear humming noise, when switch is on but the fan will not turn. It is locked up.

Begin by checking the forward/reverse switch, (sometimes called the Summer'Winter switch), there is a good liklihood the switch is stuck between positions.

If you can manually spin the blades in either direction your fan is probably not locked up.

    All the best.

My ceiling fan is spinning in the WRONG direction. I know because I have an identical fan spinning in the right direction. How do I get my fan to spin in the right direction? It has been doing this ever...

shut it off, an get up there and see if it has a directional switch, to make it go forward or back wards. also be sure the blades are not upside down on fan motor. the reverse switch should be on the fan motor housing so it can be reversed.

Motor Humming but blades not running

Hi m.. if this is a new installation, look up at the area where the blades attach and be sure that you have removed all the black rubber packing stops. If this has been running and now does not , then you probably have a bad capacitor on the motor.

Hampton Bay ceiling fan - will not reverse

It sounds like the direction switch has a broken connection on the "reverse" side.  Should be an easy fix (but you might need a soldering iron).

I instant a Hampton bay fan with a remote, the fan will not go in the forward cycle only reverse

the connection to the motor has been reversed which makes the fan to run in reverse direction interchange the terminal then it will run in the forward direction
