You have to use a PC with the OS being XP Pro SP3 or vista with itunes installed on it. The moment you connect the ipod to the USB port, it will be recognized and the library sync'd. If the songs audio/video are on a CD/DVD, it will have to be ripped using itunes so that it converts it to the format supported by the ipod. After that it will remain in the itunes library in that PC. On connecting the ipod the next time it will automatically upload it to the ipod device. Otherwise it will be stored in the ipod as data files which cannot be played by the software in the ipod since it does not accept/recognize that format ...................sodeep

Try adding the songs manually:

Connect your iPod to your computer.

When the iPod icon appears in the iTunes window (under Devices), select it.

If the Summary pane is not showing, click the Summary tab.

Select "Manually manage music." (If you have an iPod that displays video, the checkbox says "Manually manage music and video.")

Click Music (below Library, on the left side of the iTunes window) and then drag songs and playlists to your iPod

When it comes to transferring music from computer to iPod touch, iTunes is always the first choice for you. As the official transfer tool, iTunes can help you transfer music to iPod touch easily.

Step 1. Connect your iPod touch to PC via matched USB cable. Then click the iPod icon on the left corner of the interface. To manage your media files manually, you'd better go to "Options" under "Summary" tab, cancel "Automatically sync when this iPod is connected" and check "Manually manage music and videos". Don't forget to click "Apply" when it's done.
Step 2. Import music into iTunes library from computer by clicking "File" and then "Add File to Library". Once transferred successfully, you can select the music icon on top to see all the songs.
Step 3. Click "Music" under "Settings" tab. Choose "Sync Music". You can either sync entire music library or selected playlists as you like. Then click "Sync" button at the bottom to transfer music from computer to iPod.

3rd Generation iPod Touch

The third generation of iPods includes iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch and iPod Nano. Installing the latest software for each of these models involves the same process and requires the latest version of iTunes to perform. The 3rd generation iPod Touch uses the same iOS 4 operating system that the iPhone uses. You can download the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website for free. With iTunes, you can install the most up-to-date software on any 3rd generation iPod for free as well.

Download iTunes from the Apple website or check for the latest update by clicking "Help" at the top of the screen. Scroll down to "Check for Updates." Open iTunes either by clicking its icon in the Start menu or by connecting your iPod to your computer with the sync cable. This cable looks like an ordinary USB cable with a special attachment on the end that plug into your iPod. If you have lost your original cable, you will need to purchase a replacement. Any type of iPod sync cable will work, as long as it is compatible with your 3rd generation model. Wait for iTunes to update or restore your iPod automatically. Enter your iPod's name in the top field when you are prompted. Check the box next to "Automatically update songs on my iPod" if you want iTunes to sync your hard drive's playlist with your iPod every time you plug in your iPod. Select your iPod from the "Source" list on the left side of the screen if you need to update your software. This will take you to a screen with links to iPod software updates. Click on "Check for Update" to look for the most up-to-date iPod software, and click "Download" and "Install" to install the software. Do not unplug your iPod during installation. Check the box next to "Automatically copy photos to my iPod" to sync a photo folder on your hard drive with an iPod with a color screen. Choose the folder you wish to sync with your iPod from the "Synchronize photos from" menu. Click "Next" to move to the final screen. Click "Register My iPod" to send your personal information to Apple and then click "Finish" to end the installation. Your iPod will appear in the "Source" list on the left side of the screen. It says can not sync ipod(-53) What does this mean..how to fix

Hi, message saying "can not sync" means that the connection from the ipod to the computer was not successful..
If you sync your iPod with a different/empty library iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from the iPod to the computer and everything else on it will be erased. You'll find details on transferring purchases in this article: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer

Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store

If you want to recover the music from CDs etc that is on the iPod and transfer it to your new computer there are a few things you can do. music from CDs etc.) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.

A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

One last thing, you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok before connecting your device.

Once you have recovered everything from the iPod and your iTunes library has been rebuilt it will be safe to sync again.

How do i transfer my pics frm my laptop on my ipod touch pls advise

Transferring photos from PC to iPod touch is not that difficult. iCloud and iTunes can both be helpful.
Using "Photo Stream" to sync photos automatically with iCloud is pretty convenient. Go to "Settings > iCloud > Photos (Photo Stream on iOS 6)" and then turn on My Photo Stream. Then get your iCloud started on your PC. In the iCloud Control Panel, Check the "Photos" and then enable the "Photo Stream" option. After that, import the photos into the "Photo Stream" folder on your PC, and then you will be able to view the photos on your iPod touch. Using iCloud to transfer photos from PC to iPod touch is easy, but this method needs Wi-Fi connection. Only over Wi-Fi connection can iCloud sync photo on PC with iPod touch.
transfer-pics-frm-laptop-ipod-oxaxc0rwhkhzilrwacqreyis-3-0.png Using iTunes to sync photos with iPod touch is also easy. But you should be very careful of the syncing function of iTunes because it is a double-edge sword. Once wrong click, you may lose data in your iPod.
1. Plug your iPhone into computer via the USB cable. Launch iTunes if it doesn't launch automatically.
2. Find "File" option on the upper left corner. Then click "Add File to Library".
3. Select photos from your PC and then iTunes will sync the photos to iPhone automatically.

Starting up with anew ipod touch

To use iPod touch, you need:
  1. A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
  • Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later
  • Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later, Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition.
  • iTunes 7.6 or later, available at www.apple.com/itunes
  • iTunes Store account (to purchase music over Wi-Fi)
  • An Internet connection
Before you can use any of the iPod touch features, you must use iTunes to set up iPod touch. You can also register iPod touch and create an iTunes Store account.
  1. Download and install the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.
  2. Connect iPod touch to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC using the included cable. The USB port on most keyboards doesn’t provide enough power. Unless your keyboard has a high-powered USB 2.0 port, you must connect iPod touch to a USB 2.0 port on
    your computer
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to set up iPod touch and sync your music, video, photos, and other content. Your computer must be connected to the Internet. By default, iTunes automatically syncs all songs and videos in your iTunes library to
iPod touch. If you have more content in your library than will fit on iPod touch, iTunes alerts you that it can’t sync your content. You’ll need to use iTunes to select some of your songs, videos, and other content to sync.
When you get back to France, you'll need sync it with your PC. Download the latest version of iTunes then sync your iPod with your computer.

Apps won't sync to Ipod Touch

Not always automatic. You do need to go into the apps tab while in iTunes (looking at the highlighted iPod) and select the apps to sync. As long as the box is checked next to it and you legitimately own the app and it is iPod Touch compatible, it should work without a hitch.

How to sync .ipa files from comp to iphone thru itunes ?

when you sync the iPhone with the computer, iTunes will only add what is new, it will not delete your apps.

Setting Up Syncing You use iTunes on your computer to set up which items are synced. Make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes (On a PC, open iTunes and choose Help > Check for Updates. On a Mac, open iTunes and choose iTunes > Check for Updates.
Step 1: Connect iPhone or iPod touch
  1. Connect iPhone or iPod touch to your computer using the included cable. You can connect the cable from your computer directly to iPhone or iPod touch, or connect the cable from your computer to the Apple Universal Dock (available separately) and put iPhone or iPod touch in the dock. By default, iTunes opens automatically.
  2. Select iPhone or iPod touch in iTunes under Devices on the left hand side and click the Info tab.
Step 2: Set Up Which Items Are Synced Click the respective tabs in iTunes to specify which media and information you want synced from your computer to iPhone or iPod touch.
For more information about syncing iPhone with your computer see the iPhone User's Guide:
On your computer: click here to download and view "Chapter 1: Getting Started" in iPhone User Guide.
On iPhone: Tap Safari and view http://help.apple.com/iphone/guide/.
For more information about syncing iPod touch with your computer:
On your computer, click here to download and view "Chapter 1: Getting Started" in iPod touch User Guide.
On iPod touch: Tap Safari and view http://help.apple.com/ipodtouch/guide/.

Step 3: Sync iPhone or iPod touch Click Apply in the lower-right corner of the screen. Your computer syncs with iPhone or iPod touch according to your settings.
The first time you sync iPhone or iPod touch, you are asked if you want to merge data, replace data on the service, or replace the data on your computer. After that, anytime you connect iPhone or iPod touch to your computer, iTunes opens and syncs with iPhone or iPod touch according to your settings.
You can adjust sync settings anytime iPhone or iPod touch is connected to your computer. You can only connect and sync with one iPhone or iPod touch at the same time. If you need to sync more than one iPhone or iPod touch, disconnect one before connecting the other.
Note: Syncing won't delete any contact in Yahoo! Address Book that contains a Messenger ID, even if you've deleted the contact from your address book on iPhone or your computer. To delete a contact containing a Messenger ID, log in to your Yahoo! account online and delete the contact using Yahoo! Address Book.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
