Question about Sony KP-57WS510 57" Rear Projection HDTV

Open Question

QualXserv technicians replaced the front screen that was cracked accidentally. After the screen was replaced, the picture was not as sharp as it should be so I executed the "flash focus" adjustment. After the flash focus, the screen was rotated about 5 degrees. In an attempt to repair, QualXserv has made the situation worse. Now, no straight lines are straight. My guess, is that there is some kind of reference or registration position that the the flash focus uses to determine a start position. The QualXserv technicans say that there is nothing more that they can do. I am ready to file a small claims suit against them. Can you provide the procedures for aligning the picture on the Sony KP-57WS510 projection TV? Thanks

SOURCE: Convergence problem

you will need to replace the stk ic's they are mounted to 2 large heat sinks in side the tv. the ic numbers are on the chips themselves. i do believe it is stk392-510 for sony. once you have the number you can buy these anywhere online. just put new ones in and should be good to go. if this doesnt work then there are a few resistors and fuses by the ic's that sometimes fail.

SOURCE: Sony KP-51WS520 Stand by flashes 5 times

When a Sony TV flashes five times, that means that there is an AKB circuit fault.
This means that there is something wrong with the video.
When you get this error, several IC and components concerning the video signal must be tested and eventually replaced.

SOURCE: Sony projection TV colors out of alignment

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors.

Check the site
They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Sharp Aquos LCD power on but no picture and no sound

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.
In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Accidentally hit TV and now you can't see picture but you do see a crack.

If screen has a crack in it the set is finished---the front screen unit is a display panel and even if available will cost (just the part) more than the set did when brand new(not counting labor).

My grandbaby threw a car ar the screen and it cracked the white screen behind the main out side screen and the picture went completely out and you could see only the crack and lines. My question is ,can I...

Usually it costs more to replace the screen than to replace the TV set, unbelievable I know but screens are not kept as spare parts and must be specially ordered.
Check your household insurance for accidental damage.

We were given this plasma tv and it has a crack and there is no picture. It turns on but no picture

Above model is LCD not plasma, if crack is in screen then replacment is worth more than LCD. Given prices on Sony spare parts, you may be better covering as accidental damage on insurance if you are covered.

I hit the tv and cracked the inner picture screen. the outside is fine but the inner cracked. can this be repaired or do you just replace the TV?

You don't really want to ask the price of a replacement screen. It's bad for the heart ;-] You may want to do a quick check to see if you had any warranty that covers accidental damage. It would have been an extra pay thing at the store. That covers things like this otherwise this is classified as user abuse and not covered.
Usually it is much cheaper to replace than repair. Get a quote from the store or sony but you will probably find that buying a new tv is the cheaper way to go.

Crack screen

hi jenla,
Sharp televisions have a few layers of plastic before getting to the actual screen, these are very cheap to replace, and they just require you to take the cracked one out and replace it.
However, if the picture is affected, then it will cost alot to replace the screen, hopefully you have warrenty, you may want to replace the tv itself
