Question about Sony Televison & Video
I have a Sony KF-42WE610 and recently an eight by two inch grainy, yellow blob appeared on the screen, The TV is not even six years old yet and I've only used it a few times per week! I called Sony and they said that they don't have technicians available to diagnose problems and gave me the number of an authorized repair center (Sears). From reading these other comments about similar problems, the fix seems to be $800 to $1000. Any other options out there, other than tossing a $2500 set on the trash heap? I'm really disappointed in the lack of Sony quality, especially taking into account the minimal hours of use that I've gotten out of this set!

The issue is caused by the optical block. It was an inherent issue in the TV and cannot be fixed without replacing the optical block. It usually costs about $1000 for parts and labor. It is impossible to fix without the part as it is an inherent irreversible issue.
The TV starts to have problems with the optical block after a certain number of hours, you did not have this problem until much later because of limited use.
Sony did extend the warranty for the optical block parts and labor but it expired on 6/30/08. The only option you really have is to keep contacting Sony, explain to them your situation and they might cave in to paying for part of the repair due to special circumstances.
