Then it is probably not cold solder joints. You wouldn't think that an lcd TV would need a high voltage transformer but it does. They are very small compared to CRT televisions but they power up the screen. Without it you have no backround light to veiw what is there. There are two neon lamps on either side of the screen but they rarley go bad. My guess is the transformer ot the power supply feeding it.
Several runs had bad display panels, but other failures can cause a shutdown condition. There is a fuse in the power supply that must be removed in order to determine the failure by checking voltage at the fuse socket. I suggest you find a local authorized Hitachi servicer to continue. This is not a simple fix.
