I just bought this used 415o pentium 4. 256 mg ddr pc21005-25330 64646. battery seems to be holding up pretty good surprisingly but the batt meter lights up the farr left light center and far right lights skipping the 2 lights in between so not giving an accurate reading wondering if there is a replacement part for the battery meter. 40g ide/ata ibm travelmate hdd. cd rw. mini pc card is missing looks some moisture damage to hdd. plastic shell needs to be replaced particularlt the palm rest plastic cracked back left by the hinge, top cover cracked causing instabillty of entire plastic shell. everything else looks good,i'm going to order a new hdd 100g ide, 2 512g ddr ram and new plastic shell. bottom bay cover and i'm not even going to open up the cpu. i bought the whole unit used. for 60 bucks and so farr it looks like about 120ish is what it'll cost me for parts and shiping and handling bringing it to about 180 total, purpose to sell it for a small profit and for the fun of it. going to sell it to a friend who will be using it primarily for portability-writing essays and travling to and from school, checking email internet surfing. i want to speed it up as much as i can while staying under 250 and 2nd question if i decide to really upgrade it to the limit what would those limits be without cahnging the processor, mother board? any suggestions or comments? this is my first laptop refurbishment. i'm pretty much a newb btw, so keep that in mind. and ultimately i need someone who has worked with this model before refurbishing and upgrades because i may if it's not to much wanna push it as hard as possible keeping it mobileand is there another place besides new egg to get really cheap parts?

You would want to check the system specs. on the ammount of memory each socket will hold and timming specs.
Your unit know has 256mb of DDR RAM and may hold as mush as 4 Gb.
Check the upgrade specs. and try to purchase the fastest DDR you can find for it. Keep in mind, do not try to use the 256mb memory you have installed, as your new memory will have faster timming and speed sets.
Next, the mother board is fixed but you may want to check and see if their are BIOS updates, which may also speed things up for you.

If you are going to order a new hard drive, you again, may want to check the specs. and instead of a standard 5400 rpm drive, you may want to use a 7200rpm. The cost may be alittle more but the speed will make up for that in the long run.!
Last of all, try to purchase Knew parts and not from Dell. Anything you need can be found on Ebay or others.

Also, looking over your data, I see you asked about the power meter. You can download a small utility to give you digital readouts of the battery when in use.
Hope this info has helped you.
Sounds like you know what you are doing. Have fun. !!!

BATTERY SHOWS 12.84 VOLTS BUT WONT START UNLESS JUMPED METER SHOWS 14.2VOLT WITH ENGINE RUNNING

Hi,
First thing to do is clean both battery connections.Fords are really bad for the battery connections corroding. When this happens you can get a good volt reading but not be getting enough amps. Next is to disconnect clean and reattach the electrical connections at the starter. Also check along the wires going from the battery to the starter to make sure the insulation has not been damaged. It is unlikely but possible that a critter or road debris damaged the insulation and caused one of the wires to corrode. The starter is the heaviest draw on the battery so physical damage to the electrical system will show up here first. If everything else checks out you will want to have the starter checked. If you are capable of removing it most major auto parts stores can bench test them.
Hope this is helpful to you. Good Luck!

Avalon wont start batt seems fine just clicking

seems, means nuttn. (no jumper cables,?????)
only a volt meter works, seems is zero .
a rested charged battery and (warm temps) is 12.6vdc.
you crank it, (not in Klondike?) and battery holds above 11v. cranking
does it? if not the battery is bad, or not charged.
jumper cables to other car fix it?
barrowed battery from wifes good car fix it?
no,
no.?
ok are battery cables cleaned, the lugs.
yes.
you hot wire the starter (keys in pocket)
starter works (engine dont start for safety here)
it fails to crank, starter is bad.
it cranks, that means the key line is dead.

if key line fails, did you wiggle the shifter cranking, , do so.
if that starts car the PRNDL switch is bad. on trans side.

My 1997 Saturn will not hold a charge on the battery

theres a draw on batt. start pulling fuses one by one for a few days over nite and the circit will reveal its self. if you have a volt meter you can do same thing faster by conectin it between batt cable and batt (power must pass though meter)

97 checvy astro 4.3 6cyl. I replaced battery, Starter and the batt wont hold a charge. Is it possible to check the wiring from the alt to the starter without having to remove the alternator?

Yes, If you have a volt meter, jump and start engine, with engine running you should have approx 13.5 to 14.2volts that would tell me that batt is getting charged when engine is running. you said new batt would not hold a charge, I would be thinking about a parasitic draw(small amount of power) that in time will drain batt. things to look for are glove box lights, under hood lights that dont turn off. one easy way too see if you have a draw is to disconnect one batt cable, now use a regular (12volt non-self powered) test light and touch one end to batt cable and the other to empty batt terminal, with no light switches on and doors closed, this test light should not light and if it does then you have a drain on batt that will kill it say overnight.

Change battery

the batt is usually found in front of your drivers tire behind the cover. raise and remove the tire its way easier to get the batt out if you do this. the cover should have either 10mm bolts or pin tabs holding it on. remove these to gain acces to the batt. then its pretty much straight forward from there. good luck

So whenever I am driving my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in the winter (I live in ND so it gets pretty cold) when I brake my lights seem to dim and my battery voltage meter kind of acts up. Is it time...

Do you know how old the battery is?
Do you know if it is the correct one for your vehicle?
Have it tested at a shop or a parts store, if they do that.
You install the correct group size for your vehicle, again,
parts store can look at it or look that up.
There is no time to replace a battery. Some last 3 years.
All mine last 7 to 9 years
You install the largest CCA Battery yhat fits your vehicle,
especially in a cold climate. Approx 770 to 800 CCA
That suggestion is out, because you want cheap.
A good battery will cost you $110.00

You need to diagnose the cause of the dimming lights and volt meter issues.
The alternator needs to be tested.
Put a volt meter on the batt terminals, and get a reading, then turn everything
on and see if it is able to charge with a slight increasing in engine speed

Batteries won't hold a charge

Are the batteries really gettin a full charge or is your charger faulty. If you can borrow a voltage meter you can see what your battery is putting out and check the charger (plugged in) to test how much voltage it is putting out. If the Razor is 12 volt you can hook up a car/motorcycle charger to pump up those batteries. I don't think your batts are not holding a charge, i think they're not gettin a charge....good luck to you...Tim

NEW Batts but keep getting low batt indicator and....

Sorry, no solution. Same problem here. I am very unhappy because initially it took great pictures. The first one I tried only worked a couple of days and I returned to store and they replaced. Second worked a couple of months and now immediately draws down power and won't work on new batteries. I was told to use NH-10 batteries (rechargeable). I did this from the beginning. Still won't hold charge.
