Removal and Replace bad ignitor in GE JGBP24

Anyone have a link or directions to remove and replace a bad ignitor. I have been told to remove two screws, cut wires and replace. The replacement will have two ceramic wire nuts. I have found that on my current range one of the wires has a plastic connector and the other connects directly to the oven safety value. Any help would be appreciated.....seems straihgt forward to want to double check prior to removal. Thanks!

Cut the wires AT the ignitor and wire in the new ignitor. Ignore the plastic connector.

Oven wont light up and i smell a lot of gas so i quit trying before i blow up the house.

Greetings,

This could be alot of different things...Usually, the ignitor goes bad and will not open the gas valve..It should not be letting gas come on for the oven,..On the other hand, I have seen some open up and the ignitor just was not hot enough to ignite the gas....I'd look there first...the ignitor should glow , but again, just because it does..Does not mean its good..The only way to check this is to check the amperage draw on the ignitor...if by chance you have a clamp on meter or know someone who does...it should be drawing 3.2 amps at least...the round ignitors draw. I believe 2.5 or better................Bruce Denton

GE Profile Spectra XL44 oven- Makes a popping noise while heating up

assuming you have a gas rang here sounds like a bad ignitor, too long to light causes a "popping "noise when it finally does, as well as extending cooking time and perhaps slight smell of gas while cooking, all signs of bad ignitor.when you start the oven should light bake bar in 40-60 secs. any longer, bad ignitor
easy part to replace yourself part num wb2x9154, remove bottom of oven cavity, 2 screws mount ignitor to burner and 2 wires lead from ignitor( use wire nuts provided if needed . and makes no difference which wire goes where theres no polarity.

My ge gas range wont work on BAKE but everything else works model JGS905SEK2SS

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. Should be 3 - 3.6A. If less than 3A - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.

Part numbers, the first one being the direct replacement: WB13T10045, 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Those ignitors are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires, if not comfortable splicing wires - order the first one.

Good luck!

My GE jgbp24 oven is stuck in self-cleaning mode. How can I fix this?

It sounds like the self clean solenoid has locked the door and you will need a service technician to come and release it for you. You will likely need to replace the door locking mechanism.

Oven is not working; won't preheat or get hot

Called a reepairman who couldn't even figure out how to take the range door off. I called the GE Support Line and they gave me directions on how to take the door off. I ended up paying this guy $137.00 for me to basically do the repair myself ($62 for the part and $75 for labor). The ignitor was replaced. I just hope it will keep working. You smell alot of burning when the oven is on now. The old ignitor had burn spots on the wires as though they had caught fire. The old ignitor also had wire covers and the new ignitor does not have these (wires are exposed and very thin). When I asked the repairman about some other issues. He had no clue as how to respond. Don't call the repairman!!! You can replace the ignitor yourself.
