I have a Swintec 8012. From time-to-time (and just within past several months) the carriage/printwheel assembly will "freeze" at the left end at startup, with a buzzing sound that lasts for a few seconds, turns into a beeping sound and then stops. When operating correctly, the assembly moves the length of the carriage rod, returning to rest just inside the left margin setting.
What is going on? And can it be repaired?

The silver shaft that the printwheel carrier moves on may be dry. Turn the power off..apply a few drops of oil to a clean rag and wipe the shaft. so this twice. also put a small drop of oil on either end of the shaft..this may help.

HOW I CHANGE THE LANGUAGE OF THE SWINTEC 7000 TYPEWRITER

To print in a different language, your best option is to get a printwheel that contains your preferred languages special characters. You can see a list of them here:

Everything is in italics

There is no Italics mode on the Swintec 2640 typewriter. It sounds like you are using a printwheel that is Italics, such as Courier Italics 12. To print other than Italics, you can buy a standard printwheel here:

Swintec Printwheels

Just make sure to choose a typestyle that is not Italics.

I have a plastic on my print wheel do i remove it

Your description of plastic is not clear. If you mean the plastic case it comes in, then remove the printwheel from the case. Other than that the printwheel should be just the plastic fingers on a hub. You can see a sample on the www.swintec.com website. Hope this helps.

I brought a swintec 7040 and on my print wheel there is a plastic on it do i remove

If the plastic is packaging, do remove it. The printwheel should be inserted as a black hub with black hard plastic fingers. The hub snaps into place on the hub wheel either by you snapping it into place or by you sliding it into a slot and pushing a lever to put the printwheel carrier into home position. You can see a sample of the printwheel on www.swintec.com.

IT TYPES OTHER CHARACTERS RATHER THAN NORMAL KEYS DISPLAYED ON KEYBOARD

Printwheel in wrong. release the printwheel, make sure the pin is aligned with the slot on the hub and snap it back in. The printwheel should spin, then home out to the left margin, then it should be ok. Check to make sure no pedals on the printwheel are bent.

How do I change the font and type size on a swintec typewriter

To change the font you must change the printwheel. Remove the ribbon and L/O tape, Pull the lever just to the right of the print solenoid. Remove the printwheel by pulling on the knob in the center. To change the pitch move the slide sitch on the L. side to the setting you want. DickyO

If what you are saying is that you get 2 vertical lines instead of a letter start with a new printwheel, what you are seeing is the hammer face when it misses the printwheel.
