I have the same problem for Sony VGN-S460 heatsink fan problem

I found a replace heatsink fan for VGN-S460 but could not dismount the noisy problem fan from the mother board. I opened this notebook many times and replaced other parts before.
If you have repair manual or step by step instruction will be greatly appreciated.

I trust that you have purchased the entire fan assembly as they are inseparable from the heatsink. You must disassemble the entire laptop in order to remove the fan assembly. they are two screws that are below the motherboard that must be remove in order for the fan assembly to come apart.
If you cannot achieve this yourself, or lack confidence in your ability to rebuild the unit after, you can send the unit to us at www.cowetacomputerstore.com and we will accomplish the desired outcome. We have worked on this system resolving this very issue.

Sony vaio fan is making a grinding noise, how can i fix this?

The sony VGN-S460 seems to have an inherent problem with their cpu fans. It is apparent that the fan uses a ball bearing system which over time becomes worn and causes the grinding sound.

The only solution is to replace the entire fan assembly as they are inseparable.

Noisy fan--sony vaio vgn-s460

then if that is the problem to your pc then turn your pc upside down and dissassemled the screw at the back then your keyboard should be lift up slightly and if you can not do that on your own try to contact someone in that field to help you but just for you to tell the person that you know what is wrong w2ith the pc the person should try and check if there is anything too close to the fan that the fan is touching and if there is nothing the fan is touching and the noise continue then change the fan with a new one. bye any question again.

Sony VGN S480P

Hello

I would not suggest yo uto luricate the fan but if yo want to, you will have to take palmrest off, first of all you will to take keyboard off to do so there are two screws on each side of battery take those screws off and then in battery compartment you will see two black plastic Knotch push those back one by one and keyboard will come off now unplug two flex cables one for power board and one for mouse pad also unplug the speaker wires on left hand side now take all the screws on top of palmrest and then close the lid and flip laptop over and take all the screws of n bottom and your palrest will come off and you can see the fan.

The Crucial website suggests you can put 1GB in each slot. http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO%20VGN-S460%20Series Sony might know which CPUs will work with this. Hopefully any Pentium-M with 533 FSB.
