After you install ubuntu make sure that you click onto the two computers icon, next to the clock, in the top right corner of the screen and select enable networking. Also make sure the internet is hooked up to the computer before you turn on the computer that will help.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I am trying to download Ubuntu 13.10 from the DVD disk I got out of the Ubuntu Unleashed book I bought, and it keeps getting stuck on "configuring bcmwl-kernel-source" why is this happening, and what

Although it is nice to get a DVD in a book with the OS that you are reading about the only drawback is that the version of Ubuntu you are working with is 1 version behind the most current version. Since you have internet connection I would suggest downloading the lastest version and installing that.

If you are only installing to play around and learn use
Ctrl-Alt-F2 sudo kill -9 (pid of process 'modprobe wl')

That will move on to the next step in the installation process and should allow you to get everything installed.

How can we have a free OS for my laptop.

Hi,
There are a large number of OSes which are available for free on the internet . Most of them are linux based , with each having a slightly different interface and a different method to install programs (also referred to as package management) . They are popularly referred to as linux distros. Depending on how old your laptop is, and you requirements, you can choose an appropriate distro . For laptops which have been bought within 3-4 years , UBUNTU (http://www.ubuntu.com/) is a good choice . For new linux users LinuxMint (http://www.linuxmint.com/) is a good option with lots of settings and applications preconfigured . In case it is a old machine and will be mainly used for internet surfing and web based applications then a netbook OS like Joli OS http://www.jolicloud.com/download is a good option. These OS offer fast boot times and good web compatibility .
To install any these , you can go to the website and download the OS and burn it to a CD/DVD . Some of these OS can be directly installed without the need to burn a CD . You can also try out these OS without installing . This is called Live-Boot .
I hope this answers your question .

I have an old IBM t60 Thinkpad I am trying to (clean) install XP home edition. The OS is installed but I have no internet connection. I am missing drivers for Network controller, PCI device, SM Bus...

You can try to use an Ubuntu 10.10 CD, and when you are done with the install you will have access to the web without needing any drivers.
Then go to the web and download your XP drivers if you still need to.
Would recommend you use Ubuntu as it is much better OS than XP and runs great on T60 very solid.

I have ubuntu with windows(dual os) and there is siffy broadband internet in windows, and i want to share this internet with ubuntu.how can i do so

There is no sharing involved. You have dual OS installed but you can only use one at any time so nothing is shared.

Just set up your internet connection in Ubuntu as if it were the only OS you had.

Hello Sir,

I am sure your system meets the normal requirement for installing and using the Ubuntu OS. So you dont have to worry about the system speed and perfomance. I have also sent you the link to download the latest version of Ubuntu OS 10.4 from the original website. All you need to do is download it and burn that image file using nero or any image burning software to the dvd and boot the dvd in your system and install it.
