I am sorry I did not describe the unit--It is a Sony dual AUDIO CASSETTE unit--with 2 transport units---one being for playback only--the other for recording and playback--it is the recording side that has the jammed door. The model number is Sony TC-WE825S

Thanks for the suggestion--but according to one tech I talked to, if the head is indeed pressed up against the tape preventing the door from opening, forcing the door open could damage the head or certainly affect the alignment of it--it doesn't matter to me what happens to the tape--it is disposable no matter what content is on it--but I would prefer not to risk damaging the tape head by forcing the door open--but am beginning to think at this point that is my only option available, other than sending it to Sony for repair ($122 min.) or replacement with a refurbished unit ($168)

Plug it back in ... see if you can get it to play or rewind ...

You may have to force it ... and in the process you will probably damage your tape. do you have a splice kit? If you do, you can remove the small piece of tape that will no doubt be damaged.

My technics cassette deck tr575 everything seems to work all the functions all the buttons but when I put a cassette tape in the unit I see no responce on the db meter... Everything is functioning on

There are 2 long switches, maybe 4" long, called record/play switches. These can certainly cause this. Try cleaning them with the power unplugged. You would turn the cassette deck on end, so the switches are vertical. Use LPS-1 or LPS-2, and spray a very small amount in the end. Work the switch back and forth and see if that helps. Good luck.

Sometimes the tape sensors or record sensor gets bent or out of place so the door wont shut. Look for something like that.

The unit may be damaged or may just need adjustment- only a tape deck technician will be able to answer the question after seeing the unit. To answer it remotely like this, is really an impossible task.

Door won't open

It might be a model that has a special IC that allows the door to open and close.

You'll need to take the case off.

try hifiengine.com...that site may have the service manual.

Cassette door won't open

IF it is a deck with " soft touch " controls, that is, you arent using the old press hard down " piano key" style, but NOT a pure touch switch activation, then chances are either the drive belt has slipped, the belt broke, or the motor died. If this is the case ( soft touch = yes ), then unplug the unit, pop the cover off. You should be able to see the mechanism. When you view the mechanism from the front ( the side you normally see when using the deck ), the shiny little silver post that pulls the tape through during normal play will turn counter colckwise ( the shiny post runs against a rubber wheel ( the pinch roller )). What you should try is , with the unit unplugged and the cover off, if you can get your fingers to the deck in question, find the flywheel, should be a larger disk with a belt around it. Carefully spin the flywheel with your finger so that it turns counter clockwise, if you were looking from the front of the unit. This should cycle the deck through its cycle until you hear a click. Try to open the door. If the door doesnt open, press the stop button WHILE turning the flywheel again. This should drop the head assy and disengage the door lock mechanism. Remember, make sure the deck is unplugged, and BE GENTLE. you may feel a little resistance as you turn the flywheel. A little is OK, just be careful. If the flywheel comes to a hard stop when you are turning it, then something is jammed and you need to take it to a repair shop. Good luck...Rob. In the future, please specify a make and model so we can better help you . Thanks !!!

Cassette player on mx-d302t

Hi As you know cassette decks have been around along time, and as such they are fairly robust. The vast majority of the time, problems like you are describing are the result of a broken drive belt, or bad capstan motor. This is not true for all, but if you have favorite tapes you wish to play, you need the deck fixed, and if the problem is drive belt or motor, the repair normally should not be hugely expensive. Hope this helps, good luck!

Cassette door stuck closed

Firstly: do not think about forcing the cassette door! Look inside the unit. You need to hand rotate the capstan flywheel a bit,( a large-ish metal disc attached to the motor via a rubber drive belt.)That should release the powered deck mechanism and allow ejection. Then buy a new drive belt , so that problem does not recurr. Good Luck
