Your xbox live membership may have run out. i had the same problem yesterday as mine had expired. The automatic renewal had not taken place as my credit card details were out of date.

You can check your xbox membership status via your PC at xbox.com. log in woith your email address and password you supplied at the time you initially joined xbox live.
