I've had issues with my seagate freeagent go 250gb. My computer will only recognize it for a second, then the connection fizzles out. I've used different cables to connect it to my computer, and have tried it in different ports. As soon as I plug it in, a beeping noise begins to sound. Then, the blue lights that indicate its state turn on, but the beeping continues. The lights turn off after about thirty seconds, but the beeping still continues. I don't know how to fix it. It worked a few days ago on a friend's computer, but the second time I used it on that pc the same results occurred as with mine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, Did you try to use this drive on another computer? Did you have the same problem? Did you try using a different cable? I would try these things first in order to determine if the problem is with the drive or with the computer. Good Luck! Dr. Know

Hi. Are you using the same usb port each time you connect the drive? If this is a FreeAgent Go portable drive then it is picky, picky about the port it is plugged into (the very inadequate installation instructions that come with the drive don't explain this). You cannot use a usb hub, a port on a monitor or any other port that is not connected to the computers power supply. I could not get my drive to function until I plugged it into the right port. Once I plugged it into the right port it worked fine. Hope this helps.

Not a DIY task. You need a professional with data recovery skills. There are few good ones around.

Windows xp will not recognise the seagate freeagent desktop drive

Assuming you have tried other usb ports and had no change, remove the usb connection, then go back into device manager and select the usb controller, right click and select delete as this will erase any input driver the usb port recognises. Restart the pc and then the controller should be reinstalled automatically as it sounds as though the controller has become corrupt for some reason. Go back into device manager and check there are no exclamation marks, reconnect the drive and see if it's recognised.

How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software: http://www.icare-recovery.com/seagate-recovery/seagate-external-cannot-be-recognized.html

My seagate 500gb external hdd recognize in device manager.

I would get a bootable linux distro and boot up and use the partion manager there. (knoppix) If that does not work I would get the factory diagnostic tool from seagate and if it gave errors return it for warrenty or if not under warrenty least you will know there is something funny with the hardware.

Seagate external hard drive problem

I have the same problem with a 500GB HD by the same maker. Fortunately mine started throwing "delayed write failed" errors regarding the MFT. I had enough time to save my data. Your event log should say something to point you in the right direction. Make sure your pc is up to date with the latest service pack too and start looking for a new External HD. Tiger Direct has great deals. I got a 1TB for about $120 Good Luck!
