    Neither HD or Stick.

Attempted to do Fresh install to HD on USB port and setup choked, but was able to delete/create partitions.

Setup fresh install w/HD connected directly to bus (mobo), system booted fine, Removed, installed in USB Dock, got Win Xp heartbeat then blue screen every time.

BIOS boot sequence set to UBS as first bootable device, but still no go.

I'm leaning towards a serious bug in the BIOS firmware (only 1 update since rollout and updated) and of coarse attempting to get support from Dell is futile and aggravating at best and they usually know less then I do about my inquiries.

Has anyone been successful in booting from UBS HD's on this box with latest BIOS firmware and UBS set to 1st bootable device?

    Thanks

Sorry about that. There doesn't appear to be an option to edit posting or I missed it.

If the BIOS setting for the Boot up device order does not have the USB as a boot up device then it is not possible to boot up your computer with an USB device.
For a Drive 0 seek problem -
First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

try going into your BIOS and changing the boot sequence, it may be set to boot from floppy instead of harddrive. or you could just reinstall windows, but that sucks cuz then you lose all your data and programs. and not to be rude, but you shouldnt have bought a dell, they are full of problems.

Some USB devices seem to cause this problem. I've had it myself. USB devices when hooked up cause the computer to freeze as it hard for USB drivers to be loaded outside of windows. Try updating you windows thru windows update though even updated I still run into the problem sometimes. If updating dosen't work you need to keep the drive unhooked while booting then hook up in windows.
