Question about Famous Trails Ariel FT300 Monocular

Open Question

Ariel we are down stairs in a rumpus room and get good, nz1 nz2 and nz3. but the other channels are are fuzzy, ghosted and go in and out, and are impossible to watch when its raining. mum who lives upstairs also gets good tv nz 1 2 and 3, and has the same problem plus gets some sort of emi on her 100hz tv,  which is strange because we dont. ( could that be the boster? ). she has a shorter tv cable to the ariel .  We origionally had a low gain ariel which worked well and i dont remember having any of the current problems. until we did, so we got a technician in and he put up a high gain ariel. We live about 400 meters from some power lines and are in a valley. Also the tv cable is thin, i think its rg9. Question? would using rg6 cable ( thicker cable ) and adjusting the low gain ariel fix week signal  problem, and is there anything that could help with the emi that my mum gets. please send me your thoughts to... kind regards Douglas R

I have a Ariel FT 300 it will not turn on

Hello. It seems these Russian made monocular won't operate aftera while. It is a common ocurrance with these and others NV devises.

It probably the image intensifier tube that is bad. It would be cost prohibitive to have it repair by Famous Trail Optic. I am take a guess here. The cost would be about $100 + shipping to and from, and about $200 for a used Russian image intensifier tube. New tube will be approx. $400.

Try if you have their address and phone give them a call. They might give you a deal. Normally what happen they will tell you it is none repairable but they will give you a great deal on another Russian made monocular. I'm really sorry for you. GB you...stewbison

Can not focus. The lens moves fine from one end to the other but I'm unable to see clear images with or IR while in a dark room.

Don't IR illuminator in the dark room. Turn on a small light in one of the corner; such as, a small light bulb. increase ambient light a little at a time until you can focus. You flooding the dark room with IR illumination which will reflect everywhere in there. This might take care of the fuzziness in the monocular. stewbison

Cannot see though it,just stop working

Hello, about 85% of the problems with these Russian NV monculars are the image intensifier tubes. They can't take any kind of abuse. Just droping it will sometimes destroy the image tube.
and it to cost prohibitive to have it fix. Sell it on eBay for parts. Sorry. GB...stewbison
