Cord won't pull

be sure the engine brake is releasing to allow the engine to turn. check to see if there is rope or wire or something under neath stopping the blade from turning. matted grass will sometimes lock it up so it wont pull.

Ultra starter model 1270 keeps trying to lock doors

you will need to get the manufactures instructions or wiring diagram to wire the circuit correctly.
It appears that the circuit has an open short somewhere.

I serviced the carburetor and i cannot get the pull the start cord

Make sure you have assembled the starter correctly, assemble loosley pull the starter handle until you hear the pulley fully engage into the starter pawls on the flywheel and the cover sits down easily, now fully tighten the screws.

I have a 2 year old Ryobi RY34440 String trimmer, 30cc. Last year worked fine, this year pull cord is so easy to pull it doesn't even turn engine over. Is is the spark plug?

Either the pull starter is not pulling or you are not getting compression. To check you need to check the spark plug is still snug. If so, remove the plug and put a drinking straw in the hole to touch the piston. Slowly pull the starter to see if the piston is moving. If the piston is moving and the plug was snug then you are losing compression somewhere, like a head gasket. If not moving then the problem most likely is in the starter, and disassembly required to investigate.

If really helpful, please rate.

I have a Troy-Bilt Briggs and Stratton 675 series lawn mower. The pull cord is stuck and will not move. I can lightly pull the cord repeatedly and the cord slowly allows me to pull more but if I release it...

Take the plug out and try to move the blade. If the motor won't rotate, the problem might be with the motor and the cord can't move because of it.

How do i replace a pull cord on poulan 031 pro

This is a tricky job, you have to extract the assembly, remove all old cord, wind the spring and pulley fully, and back off a turn or so, lock the pulley, install the new cord, release the pulley and it will wind in the new cord. reinstall starter assembly.
Try to resist handling the spring, they are messy, uncooperative and hard to reinstall.

How to reset chain brake has engine locked up after starting

The chain brake has a centrifugaul clutch and will not stop the engine from running. Grasp the forward most handle (Hand guard) and move it toward the bar nose (forward). Did it click? If yes the brake was released. Pull it aft until it clicks, it may require a little grunt at the rear extreme to latch. Wear gloves and attempt to rotate the chain. If the chain can be rotated the brake is released. Can you pull the starter cord? If not the brake is not the problem.
Starter Handle difficult to pull:
1. Remove the starter cover.
Inspect the flywheel and crankshaft under the starter cover. Are the woodruff key slots on the crack shaft and flywheel aligned and the key intact? If not; Please consider taking the saw to a good local saw seller/mechanic for a written diagnosis before authorizing any repair or ordering any parts; if yes continue.
Does the starter operate smoothly? If yes, reinstall the cover and continue with 2, if not repair the starter.
2. Is the saw equipped with a decompression valve? Yes continue, no proceed with 3.
Leave the ignition off, set the valve and pull the starter.
Pull gently to release the valve. Is there a difference in the effort required?
If yes continue with 3, if no repair or replace the decompression valve.
3. Was this saw perhaps operated in a lean condition (metal transfer from the piston to cylinder wall)? This may be caused by many things including but not limited to; leaky intake connections at the engine or carburetor; leaky crankcase seals; cracked fuel delivery lines; running on gasoline containing no 2-cycle oil.
Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the plug. Remove the muffler (clean it and the spark arrestor before reinstalling), hold a light at the plug hole and inspect the cylinder through the exhaust port. Is it smooth and shiny or does it appear speckled with dull gray spots or smears?
Pull the starter slowly, inspect the piston as it rises and falls. Is it a dull gray without scratches and gouges?
Hold the light at the exhaust port and look through the spark plug hole, inspect the cylinder above the exhaust port. Is it shiny and smooth or speckled with gray spots or smears?
Please Note: Any spots or smears on the cylinder or deep scratches and gouges in the piston indicate the saw was operated in a lean condition. Repair of this on a home owner quality saw often exceeds replacement cost. A repair estimate by an independent saw shop should be considered.
