There is a problem with the power panel/pack of the television. It must have gotten burnt that is why your television is not coming up. If the green dot does not appear when you use a DVD player to watch a movie on the television, then the problem is not from the television, but if the green dot appears all the time, then it simply means there is a cold joint. Which means, there is melted lead from a panel in the tv.
But since it is under the warranty period, it will be best you take it back to the dealer that supplied it to you, because it is less than a year and it is giving faults,
All the best.
Take care and good luck

SOURCE: my LG 42" LCD turns
first your going to need to disconnect any wires from the tv. then unplug the tv from its powersource (ex- outlet) then make sure no power is still stored within its capacitor by pressing the power button for five seconds. then lay down a plastic mat underneath the tv. then your going to need a phillips head screw driver, an allen wrench and a small rubber hammer. turn the tv around and using the screw driver remove the screws from the back of the tv, on your particular tv i believe there are 12 screws in all. carefully remove the back panel of the tv. then using the allen wrench unscrew all of the screws that hold the boards and electrical components to the front panel of the tv. remove all components from the tv. (they should all come out as one entity) now take all of the components and place on the plastic mat you have previously placed on the floor. take the rubber mallet and beat the **** out of the components and the board. once it is in snickers fun size pieces replace back onto the front panel. then carefully (without damaging any parts) put the back panel of the tv on and put the 12 screws back in place. carefully wrap the entire television in bubble wrap and personally take back to the store and order the store supervisor to refund your purchase. he will inspect the tv and showing what a horrible job that the mexicans did at the assembly facility, he will gladly give you another LG 42" and an HDMI cable for your troubles...
no, honestly go to the options menu on the tv, check o make sure its not on a sleep timer or stand by mode, if the tv has been dropped, either by you our the store in which you purchased it, it could have moved a small coil that tells the tv to turn off (makes the tv think its over-heating once it reaches a small temperature) or simply call the manufacturer and ask wtf is up.

The set needs a new LCD if it looks cracked and swirly, the colors all run together in the area of the crack don't they! If it is cracked it can't be fixed. you can replace the lcd but I am not sure if a warranty will cover a cracked screen or not. You will need to contact LG and be very nice to them and see if they will honer the warranty on this.
