Do you mean you see a message saying, "the PC will shutdown in 28.. 27... 26..."?

In that case it is probably a corrupt system component, possibly due to a virus. Try booting from a "forensics CD" (you find several ISOs ready to burn with Google) and run a system scan. Then, try repairing the installation using the Windows Recovery Console.

If the damage isn't too great you just MIGHT be able to boot in safe mode by pressing F5 or F8 as soon as the PC boots, then running the System File Check utility (SFC /SCANNOW).

Even so, the system may display some instability due to an incomplete recovery. Once booted, however, you have the option of backing up your data and reinstall the OS.

Usually a device driver or a Windows update got corrupted, try starting in safe mode and remove any new devices that were recently added that could be a culprit. Alternately, try using windows system restore and go back to before the problem occured. Hardest part is figuring out what is causing the problem.

My hp omnibook Xe 3 is saying this now I've got past password screen and verified password for their update of files then doesn't move but press end task it pops back every 20 secs.so could u help.

Your computer is in a windows update loop. This happens when an update gets corrupted. When the computer reboots again hit the F8 key and try to get it to go to safe mode. If you can get it to boot up go to windows update and uninstall the most recent updates and reboot.

How do i reboot dell Inspiron 660 with hotkeys

This is nothing to do with reboot keys, but the answer is CTRL+ALT+DEL

Your system has a Windows file corruption error and is not booting properly, the causes can be many so someone needs to look at it to try and fix it but it might require a re-install of Windows. Back up any precious files before a reinstall or you will lose them with a new install of Windows.

Good Luck

Is Is the screen stuck with the boot screen? A couple of things to try- Hit ctctrl, alt, and delete buttons at the same time. That should reboot the computer. Also, you could unplug the power and pull out the battery. Leave it for about 30 sec then put the battery back in and reconnect power.

I have hp dv9700, after improper shutdown kept rebooting

What happened is that you interrupted the disk write on 'saving settings'. Very BAD. You may be able to start in safe mode, by pressing F8 while windows is starting, then selecting options to attempt to repair. The alternative, is to boot from the windows CD and select 'repair'.

When I turn on my PC, it starts normally. After

Screen Goes Black After Splash Screen

This sounds like a driver may have been updated, changed or has become corrupt, either after a bad update or virus/malware attack. Reboot the computer in safe mode with networking…when the computer reboots, open the control panel > device manager (in XP the device manager is in the system folder) > scroll to the display adapter. Right click on the adapter and roll-back the driver. Click yes and apply if necessary. Reboot the computer, it should reboot and display with no issue. It may ask (if you are automatically connected to the internet) if it can search windows update for a fresh driver….since you know what to do in case of a failed update, click yes and get a fresh driver. I would then do a complete virus and anti-malware scan to make sure the system is clean.
