Question about Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1208Uw Netbook
A couple of weeks ago, my husband's Lenovo net book had a "disk error". He took it to a repair shop, and they replaced the hard disk at $100. Today he got exactly the same error again. My question: 1. Why it was not under warrantee? We bought it this year. 2. Is this "Disk error" common to lenovo netbook?
Pretty poor customer service of the repair shop if it failed so soon and they won't honor it. The new drive they installed should have been warrantied, and should be eligible for replacement.
HDD failures in laptops are common in heavy use due them being bounced around a bit. It only really takes one well timed smack to end a hard drives life. They are mechanical, and very delicate. To avoid this, have the next hard drive installed be a solid state hard drive, they are not mechanically, basically a giant flash memory (thumb drive) drive. While they can be a bit pricey per GB, see how much you really need, it will be worth the investment. The newest generation, single-level cell (SLC) solid state drives, are also much faster than standard notebook drives.
Hope that helps.
