Question about Canon PIXMA MP530 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HELP: I have a brand new MP530 with airport base station wireless connection to my brand new MACBOOK PRO laptop. Without realizing I did not have enough paper in the automatic paper feeder, I requested a large print job and the paper ran out before the print job completed. Part of the print job completed but when the paper ran out from the automatic feeder, the entire printing session halted even when I added more paper to the automatic paper feeder. The directions said, "load paper" so I loaded the automatic feeder with more paper. Now the Canon MP 530 says "printing" but nothing is operating. (There is no paper in the paper cassette since I do not and did not intend to use the cassette paper tray). So, now I have an unfinished print job with the MP530 saying "printing" but there is no printing going on and the green light;FEED SWITCH LIGHT is now on. What shall I do now? I've tried MENU repeatedly but nothing happens. I've tried the < and the > but nothing happens. I've pressed STOP/RESET but nothing happens. Actually nothing is happening at all although the MP530 says "printing." HELP!!! I am reachable by telephone at (415) 441-2691 or e-mail Please help me as soon as possible..I know tomorrow is Sunday and its already Saturday night but PLEASE HELP ME!

Setting up a printer for an airport extreme using windows xp

This faq might help in setting up the printer however this is not guaranteed to work every time if the printer in question is not supported by the router...

If you use Windows XP, you can print to a USB printer connected to an AirPort Extreme Base Station. Just follow these steps:
1. Click Start and point to Printer and Faxes.
2. Click Add Printer, follow the onscreen instructions.
3. Select "Local printer attached to this computer."
4. Deselect "Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer."
5. In the "Select the Printer Port" screen, click "Create a new port."
6. Select Standard TCP/IP Port from the pop-up menu.
7. Click Next, and follow the onscreen instructions for the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
8. In the Printer Name or IP Address field, enter "IP_10.0.1.1" is generated as the port name.
If you are using an alternate IP address range, then you need to enter the IP address that AirPort Admin Utility displays for the base station when connected to it wirelessly.
9. Select Standard for Device Type, and choose your printer from the list.

MX310 - Wireless network printer used on an Apple Airport Extreme

Here's what worked for me: I had everything set with my wireless network which included an Airport Extreme base station and two Airport Express units to extend range. I still couldn't plug and play with my printer. 1. You have to plug your printer into the Airport Express, turn it on, then select a document to print from your computer. 2. Select print from the pulldown menu (or select 'command P' on the keyboard). 3. When the print dialog window appears, go to the "Printer:" selection bar near the top of the window and select "print & fax preferences..." 4. This opens a new window, "print & fax." Near the bottom left of this window just below an icon list of your printers are a "+" button and a "-" button right next to each other. 5. Click "+". Yet another window opens which will reveal a list with your printer on it. 6. If you don't see your printer, click the "default" icon in the top left hand corner of the new window. 7. Select your printer, then click "add" on the bottom right hand corner of the window. The window will close automatically and return you to the "print & fax" window. 8. You should now see your printer in the list. You may say, "My printer was already in the list," but that's not good enough. The process you just went through enabled the computer to detect it on your network. You may want to use the "-" button to remove any previously listed printers from the list in the "print & fax" window. 9. Now you should be able to close the "print & fax" window and get some wireless printing done.

Scan function won't work with Mac OS10.5.5 & Airport

I plugged the printer cable directly to my laptop instead of trying to scan using the airport wireless router. Plugging it in did the trick.
Thank you,

Pixma MP530 Fax Problems

I am having a similar problem. You do have to connect your phone to the jack in the machine in the "Phone" jack slot, as well as have another line out to the jack in the wall in the "L" slot. That is all I know. I am having problems with my voicemail. Either I can received voicemail, and no faxes, or faxes, and no voicemail (fax picks up at specified number of rings). It is EXTREMELY frustrating. The machine is *supposed* to be able to discern between phone calls and faxes..and that is not happening.

Have you come across a solution? Aghhhhh!

Can't print to mac wirelessly (could do it a few days ago)

I had the same problem until recently. You have to install the drivers FROM THE CD that came with the printer, instead of selecting the drivers from the default list. Then, when selecting which printer driver to use (you'll have two options) choose Canon IJ and NOT Canon MX310 series. This is a problem with their MX310 driver, which is solved using a default/generic Canon InkJet (hence, the IJ) driver. Hope this helps!
P.S. This only works on Mac OS X. I have yet to figure out how to print wirelessly through Vista. Will keep you posted.

Printer Sharing

Hi jammin dave,

There are certainly known issues with sharing a printer installed on an XP machine to a Vista machine. First question is whether you have Windows Live OneCare installed. This in itself causes known sharing problems.

Networking a Printer on a wireless network

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.
