Question about HTC G1
Leave turned on, take battery & sim card out. blow in the back of pda, wipe sim & battery, put back. its now turned off. do soft reset & turn on

Maybe try doing the update yourself?

Your phone is stuck in bootloader mode, it seems that you may need to reinstall your phone OS on your phone.
Go to the HTC site and download your phone's OS files/installer:
Follow the installer's instructions after you've downloaded the needed file.
