A common issue for this car,and usually an easy fix.usually its a result from carbon buildup on the tip of the idle adj. screw.in a simple explanation the pgmfi system is set to measure the amount of air flow passed the conned shape port of the throttle body, with carbon build up it gets false readings and is constantly trying to search for the correct adj. The reapair is to remove the screw clean the carbon off the screw tip and also inside the port where it is removed from with pressurized carb cleaner or brake cleaner bought at any auto parts store. The screw sits in upper portion of throttle body assy.,just above where air intake hose from air filter attaches. Its a large flat head screw, inset about an 1/8 of an inch.from the factory it comes with a protective film over so to make removale easier spray carb cleaner over screw and scrap away thin layer of protective coating. Then firmly unscrew idle screw all the way out, once removed you 'll notice the black sooty buildup on the end of screw.clean well with carb clean until all deposits are gone. Then spray carb clean into port of throttle body(where screw goes)wait about 30 sec or so spray again into port. re insert screw and screw in till it completely seats, then back out 1 1/2 turns.start car and hold at higher rpm to blow out deposits loosened in throttle body(30 sec or so)then let idle.surging should have gone away at this point. good luck!

Not a bad price. If you were to get my true personal opinion, there are a few parts that i always recommend sticking with factory on and brake pads for honda is one of them.Best quality for that car i promise, and price for them is reasonable, sort of, about 75 for both sets(ft&rr). And as long as you dont have any brake rotor vibration(shaking on braking)i would just do pad replacement, saves on rotor life!As far as tools for front you need a 14mm wrench for lower caliper bolt then swing upwards and swap pads.be sure to lubricate caliper slide pins!!dow 111 grease works great!rears you need a 10mm socket to remove small dust shield on caliper and then two 12mm bolts hold upper caliper to fixed portion, remove those and swap pads, again lube slide pins.

1991 acura legend idles fine forever but driven for a short distance overheats and overflows coolant tank, also noticed the fans don't go on. thermostat has been replaced.

Legends are notorious for blowing head gaskets- the most obvious signs of a BHG (blown head gasket) are:
White milky substance on the bottom of your oil cap
white sweet smelling exhaust
a surging idle when the car is started cold.

Have a mechanic run a compression check on all 6 cylinders- this is the most sure fire way to tell what the problem is.

If all cylinders are good to go- check the hoses going to and from the heater core- these sometimes crack and **** in air which will create problems.

Water pumps for this vehicle are recommended from acura to change every 60000 miles so that could be your issue too.

One of your redundant magnetic speed pick-ups are bad. Probably a couple hundred bucks service from your dealer. Worth it. I also had a low idle problem when this happened; car would die at low rpm. New mag pick up fixed that also.

Engine runs really hot, and engine light comes on while in D4

I had the same problems with my Acura Legend. On the problem with the running hot and the idling up and down, your cooling system is low. Fill your cooling system start it up and look for leaks, steam, or etc. repair and refill and your problem should be cured if the cooling system is full. At this time i'm working on the other problem. Good Luck

Slow going from idle position

first scan the PCM for trouble codes using a hand held scanner, Then repair codes by replacing failed sensor as needed. If no codes are present then try replacing the idle air control motor.
