hello, i have a d600 latitude. i didn’t have a power supply for it so i rigged one from an old laptop with the same power ratings. i ended up switching the polarity by mistake though. a small cloud of smoke came out next to the jack and now it doesn’t work at all im sure its a fuse but not sure where could some one help me out please
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe you have blown the power inverter section of the mother board. I don't know if they are available as a replacement part. If one goes bad under warranty, a Dell tech usually installs the replacement. If you send me the Service Tag from the bottom of the laptop, I will try to investigate further for you. ~ Spoem

Monitor goes black (no green, no to flashlight test) even while we are working at fast pace and laptop is stationary. Monitor stays on (power light on), tried both crt and lcd monitors; same behavior. Can wiggle mouse or reboot to regain visual. Also when moving the laptop, screen flashes, both monitors. Cannot test with laptop monitor, as employee needs larger screen to do work and this is intermittent -- can happen 15+ x day or go 3 days with no problem.
