The gears on the motor do crack and come off. if so you need a tech.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 5. When I turn it on all the lights come and stay on and the motor hums. What can I do to fix it?

A few possibilities. First power down and see if the carrier will move back and forth fairly freely, if it dose you may have a broken or unhooked belt, a broken drive gear or board problems. If it won't move freely put some WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on.

Print head moves left and stays horrible noise

The problem is either something is interfering with the carrier movement OR the carrier homing sensor is broken/defective. First, turn off the power and manually move the carrier to the right side frame, check for foreign objects in the machine (pens, pushpins, paper clips etc.). Put some oil (10 weight) on a cloth and clean the chrome shaft that the carrier travels on.(by the rubber cogged belt). This is a common problem. If the sensor itself is the problem, take to a repair shop.(not common)

IBM golfball typewriter- how is the carriage unlocked?

If it is an IBM Selectric, there is no lock. Usually means it needs a good cleaning and lubrication. Could also be a broken drive cord.

Unit locked up - All lights are on - Just sits

All lights on is an incomplete porew on sequence. Check for anything in the way of the carrier, it should move back and forth fairly easily with the power off, check the printwheel to be sure it is properly installed , look at the belt for the carrier to see if it is tracking properly on the pulleys.

IBM Wheelwriter 5 nonresponsive, line spacing lights flashing

A lot of possibilities Which lights, beeps, how many? Check for debris in and around the printwheel, look for any obstructions under the carrier, put a few drops of oil on the silver shaft the carrier ride on.

Good Luck

My IBM Selectric System 2000 Wheelwriter 6747/6747-2 has quit typing. The keys respond and the carriage moves but no type appears.

The plastic cap on the print solenoid is probably broken. We sell them with installation instructions for 20.00 including shipping. DickyO Cleveland Business Machines 216-241-0027

IMB WHEELWRITER 5

Will the carrier move yo the rt. with power off ? Try a little WD40 on the silver shaft that runs thru the carrier. Look for foreign objects and debris inside the t/w.
