HP Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower XL504AV - doesn't boot

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

HP Boot problem

a1540n PC Desktop fails to boot unstated OS....
a very obsolete PC, in fact HP retired, support.
no problem really but makes getting books on it harder... facts...

  1. so did you make sure all fans work? and stay on,
  2. does the DVD drive eject button work
  3. does the keyboard caps/num/scroll locks LED toggle, when pressed
  4. does BIOS work with 1 DDR2 RAM stick (1 by 1) not 2 at once
  5. do the fans all work , up to 3?
  6. Does the F1 key work, hit fast at power on button, in 1-3seconds? immediatay after power on.
  7. did the screen show Hit F1 to enter HP setup? if yes did you?
  8. any PCI expanisin cars in the PCI slots, remove them?
  9. remove DVD and HDD cables, see if BIOS works.
  10. CPU fan Heat sink fins not packed in lent, as all are, clean it with Can-o-air?
  11. test the PSU? (ask)
The goal is BIOS screens, first. first things are first.

carbon dating retired PCs (hp zero support now)
is not easy. and is key to learning what BIOS is there (a pain)
the date you bought this PC is not important , the date it was made maters only....
standing here, i cant do that, id need to do hands on inspection
old AMD Athlon 64 X2

says ,,,,DDR2 SDRAM 2x1g it says, remove one?
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE TurboCache supporting 256MB
integrated, VGA.... no card. if it has a card for VGA remove it to test system using integrated VGA jack on MOBO
best i can tell, 99% off all review on pc have TIME STAMP(DATE)
but one review said it had norton 2006
so we know that one is 2006 and is over 10years old.
maybe 12 years old.. the dvd drive has date code, there in clear english, dates, if it says 2005 , there it is. other HP codes
in the PC also date the PC.

i looked up your ASUS mobo and they says its
The current bios is 3.07 phoenix-award bios.
Even ASUS dont have data on A8m2n mobos. now.

huge list of keys on PHoenix bios.
my guess is F1 or F10 is the BIOS hot key
remember HP ordered Phoenix bios under contract and HP
can in fact dictate hot keys... so HP wins here.
find the answer to this is hard. (no HP books)

hint 1: the coin cell battery can be dead, replace it on the mobo
life spans 3 -5years possible most makers top life is 7.

the goal is here, if this works we test the HDD next.
see?
its just 2 goals, BIOS, below
then getting the HDD working and last the unstated OS working.

Slimline s3123w won't boot. replaced the power supply.

If you get no video display at all, the BIOS most likely has failed. The motherboard can only be obtained from HP. The power connector is smaller than normal. I hope that you can get some video and then you could remove the battery for a minute or replace it and see if you can get to the BIOS setup.

HP P4SD, its running good with 4 gb RAM, P4 3.0ghz, and a couple sata hd. The problem is the fan output voltage, i havent been able to read the output chassis and cpu cooler pins voltage cause i can find...

"i can find my dmm?" did you mean CAN'T?
"its clearly off", what is off?
the fans are 3 pins,2 are power, one is RPM tachometer.
"it all works fine", so you can boot and run any OS, ?

"the voltage reads +12vdc", where, at fan or PSU?
the fans run off 12vdc, they are DC motors (from outside fan)
if the fan runs slow at 12vdc the the fan is bad or is a low RPM
fan, as some are, bigger fans run slow, for less noise.!

first is the CPU fan it must run full speed, if not the CPU will overheat in seconds and ALL CPU shut them selves (by there selves) this way. so CPU fan is first. what does it do... there....?

then BIOS screens. GOT BIOS UP? and running? with, ESC key pressed>.
let me guess your symptoms
1: PC dead. will not boot.
2: BIOS dead.
3: all fans DEAD,.
4: power switch works and all PSU voltages read right, (seems not)/?
5: if the PSU power wire reads right(DMM), matching the side sticker voltages, and the CPU is dead, the MOBO is dead, or CPU is toasted.

here is a modern PSU, sticker.
see 5 to 10 power lines, see them. all must read correctly
if a fan is dead, then its dead if 12vdc is present on the fan power pins.

screen never shows words, ever, does external screen work
at VGA port?
no bios does not just bug out , like ELVIS.
its ROM , ROW will not forget, (99.999999%) of the time.
good for 25+ years, by DESIGN.
unless humpty is pushed by geeks playing bios flash games.

this notbook is old , Pentium 4 , square screen , omg, old
512kb mem. ouch
HDD 30GB. (tiny)

first is what, try this
1: battery out. (big battery, ) take it out.
2: coin cell 3v not 2v, or its bad. replace coin, as all this old are bad.
3: power pack good. must put out full 19vdc voltage , does it? now.
4: BIOS hot keys work, (mine is ESC , key) is yours?
5 still no bios. does a flash light pointed at screen show data there?
yes/ no/. yes, back lamp burned out (or the DC/DC inverter card)
no screens, black screens still...
6: still dead, remove HDD, and DVD. drive. still dead.?BIOS> get BIOS working first. use the hot key.

remove all; easy things, even USB things.
7: remove all extra memory, RAM, if 2 sticks try 1. then run other by self. if runs now, ram removed is bad.
there is more, there are over 3million transistors there.

see black screen #1 here. goes into all steps, all paths for dead.

Compaq nc6220 PC Notebook: Hi my HP nc6220 is either freezing randomly. Or it...

Well yaeh lol. How long did u have it 4 and how long ago u ckeaned up in side ??? Thers is like a funel tunnel directly from inside of yr Fan Cpu to an outside grill that is ida on yr back (not bottom lol back ) or on left on the side.. u have to look if it not bloked. As if it is. Thats the symptoms u'll be getting all the time u till cleaning it. Also the fan in side collects quiet a lit there 4 making yr fan work extra hard, thats were the noise will be frm, and fron that it cant cool yr cpu on time and cpu's on them are running extrimly hot up to 100% and if thats happening u will get freezes and ramming up.. also since after clean instals u have same problems. I woukd check if u dont have same soft or device that u connect or using and it may be : ida slaging coz u got XP, or incorectly configured ( if it device ) or has wrong dtiver or outdated one, that will pull yr hall system back... but all that can be checked wile it happening, I would recomend installing small soft to monitor real time yr cpu temp, it really small wont use any am hardly but it will show u what is happening wi yr cpu temp than you will know if it worth openning to clean it as it is a bit of job.. and second run task manager to monitor what is pulling yt lapi wen it freezing.. well tjats a start ?? HP DV928US When battery in or charger plugged in

fails battery out so leave it out they love to short.
so when it fails test 2 is, hit the F10 or ESC key promptee
went it fails to boot, check BIOS key first, if BIOS fails.
be more clear.
what does it do when it wont turn on.
BIOS dead. screen 100% dead, and not even text
BIOS works even with HDD and DVD drive pulled.
that is the acid test on PCs.
the screen must say, hit F10? or ESC to enter setup, means HP BIOS. it must or power is no good. get a new power pack
the shut down tell me lost power, that can be the power pack 19vdc
or the jack at the mobo if failing to said pack.
try side pressure on that jack if at anytime the power button fails.

it self shuts down, I got that but lets fix , cant boot first.
that is how to fix this.
power on failures, are you saying the power key fails. some times
and the fan does not run every time.?
Also,
this old LT uses CCFL back lamps.
that love to fail. so when it shut down did the fan die.
did the HDD stop spinning ear to bottom? if not the CCFL is failing.
using and external monitor proves this every time,
do the flash light trick?

HAVING FAN/POWER ISSUES

Many PC's have BIOS settings that enable smart fan usage, when CPU reaches certain temp, the fans kick on high, when it reaches a higher temp, auto shutdown. I do not reccommend disabling these until you find out what is overheating. I had a PC that randomly shut off, something was shorting out on my mobo.
