Hello, Is this a new unit or one that you have had for a while? I find on my 500 that it takes some time to get used to pushing the button as this button can go sideways as well as straight down. It took me quite some time to get used to it. Try experimenting with different techniques to get it right. If you are having the same problem I was I think you may find a technique that will work for you. Good Luck! Dr. Know

Hello, I have an Explorist 600 that got wet and no longer turns on. Can you fix this and if so at what cost?

  • Try to call the tech support of magellan and advise them that your unit is no longer working. If you still have the receipt and still under warranty then they will fix it for free or if its not they can fix it for free for one time courtesy. And they are also offering a trade in for cheap price.

Anti-theft has engaged

sounds like the transmitter in the key head is defective or it lost programming, try these programing steps, if that doesn't do it u need another key made.

Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door
locks will cycle to confirm programming mode.
2. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will cycle to confirm
programming.

3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to
confirm programming.

4. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

NMEA communication does not work ( but file transfer is OK)

Try rebooting windows, with gps off connect the cable to gps.

Go out side get a good gps signals on nav menu.

Set the gps communications menu to , nmea, 2.1

Plug the device into a good usb port.

If you look under modems, in control panel you should see a new modem called explorist xxx

If you look at the properties for that you can see its com port number.

I just tried this program http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPS/

and it views nmea from the explorist, just set the com port to the one in the explorist modem .

Replacement keypad membrane

If you look on magellan website it states they no longer have or support replacement parts for older gps models.
You can find an explorist for parts on ebay.
I own a explorist 100, 400, 500. I believe the key pads are all the same. If you can not find one, I will sell you the pad from the explorist 100 for 30 dollars plus shipping.

It is more than likely a defective USB cable. I am on my third cable. They don't stand up to the abuse.

Zoom in and out buttons not working properly

Unfortunately, this is a problem with the keys and their contacts with the circuit board. I have had to return mine a couple of times to get this repaired. If you're out of warranty, they have a trade-up program which is a better deal than repairing the unit.

You probably have the USB adapter connected upside-down on the unit.

Error screen trouble shooting

If you have the USB cable and a dvd/cd that contains the software/maps, then it needs to be loaded. Install the software on your computer. With the unit off, plug it into USB, then turn on unit. run program installed from dvd/cd. you can also try resetting the unit by holding down the Menu and Nav key, hopefully a small box appears and you can use the stiff stick to change the numbers. if this does appear, change the numbers to read 32 then press the stiff stick in (pressing enter). _Daniel
