Question about Toto Drake ADA Compliant Toilet with Elongated Bowl

1 Answer

Our new Toto Drake toilet is experiencing some problems and we need to figure out if it's the toilet or a plug in the sewer pipe. After plunging a normal plug, you usually see some ****mixed with the water. Not in this case. I then dumped soapy hot water down the drain and it's still not flushing really. The water has emptied out, but it's now right yet. Any ideas? We have a 25 year old city sewer pipe but still a well system.

We invited Roto Rooter out and he had it snaked out in about 2 minutes flat! No more problems for now. I think we need to purchase one of those tools!

dalbritton-

The handles are fixed to the tank body with a hex nut on the back (inside of the tank. They may not have been tightened properly from the factory. Tighten a bit with a wrench and you're good to go!

TOTO DRAKE flushes then the tank fills, stops, then slowley leaks and the water just runs on and on at a trickle pace down the overflow spout.

The rubber stopper that is inside the back of the tank is allowing water to get by do to:
(1.) Be wore out- must be replaced with a new one.
(2.) The chain that is connected to the flush handle needs to be adjusted. However, if it has not been messed with recently, then it will be the (1.)

My Toto Drake toilet makes a noise like it is gasping for air when the tank is refilling with water. The water flow stops and starts while this noise is being made.

just simply clean the auto switch, the noosle where the water comes out when the floater goes down everytime the tank is empty with water.

Flushes very slowly, not the "power" flush it used to do.

This type of problem is, for pretty obvious reasons, difficult to diagnose, especially when you can't interact with it. My guess is that you might actually have a blockage in your venting system. This system allows air in behind the water you are flushing to allow it to flow freely down the drain. If you have a blockage in it, the water has to pull air through the trap in the toilet, and that can lead to symptoms like the ones your describing. Are other drains in the bathroom running a little slower as well? Sometimes birds or squirels build nests in the top of vent pipes (which generally stick out of your roof) and end up blocking the air flow.

Toto toilet is running

You will have to use ToTo OEM replacement parts. If the water is going over the overflow pipe, the fill valve washer will need to be replaced. If the water is running into the bowl and not over the overflow, the flapper will need to be replaced.

Problem solved.  Reason was a totally blocked waste line that resulted in toilet malfunction.  Toilet functions normally now with removal of blockage.
