Question about HP Photosmart D7160 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

My HP Photosmart D1760 will not respond to my computer. I've unplugged things and plugged them back in. There are no Error messages. The printer is able to print a sample page when using only the printer buttons. The support number will not help unless I pay them and the online support has not helped. Any ideas?

I tried this but it didn't detect the printer or something. Is it possible it's the cord?

I tried this but I'm not sure what happened. This morning I tried to connect my camera to the computer and it didn't detect it. That has never happened before. Is there a problem that would involve both of these issues?

Hi Karen, This likely is either due to Bad/Expired Printhead or it could be defective printer ( hardware failure ). However you can give it a try. Follow the steps below and it should solve the problem, else we need to consider it could be defective Printhead or printer hardware failure.

The Photosmart D7160 does not has "*" and "#" because it is not a fax capable printer.

*** Fix your HP Photosmart D7360 (Reset Code/Master Reset) ***

1- Turn off power and unplug from power source.
2- Open right side of printer (looking at the front).
3- Disconnect,by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main circuit board.
4- Plug in power source and turn printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "Ok".
5- Unplug power source.
6- Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing into the conectors on the main circuit board.
7- Plug in power source and turn printer on (Printer preparing occurred).

You can reset it by unplugging it an leaving it unplugged overnight. Then, plug it in and restart it. This may sound crazy, but could you be out of ink, or the ink cartridge may be bad. Would need more info to advise properly, such as; what were you doing when the error happened, what was the last thing you did directly before this as far as printing goes, and could a file in your program been corrupted:? Please try the simple things, then let us know, ok? Good Luk!

HP 2575 printer - paper jam message

Resetting the product may help with some false error messages. Press power button to turn printer off, unplug the power cord, wait a few seconds, plug it back in, press power button to turn printer back on. Any luck?

If unplugging the USB cord and powering down both the computer and printer didn't work, try removing all the ink cartridges from the printer, power it down again. When you power back up, wait for the message that tells you cartridge error or something about missing or empty cartridges, you'll understand once you try this. Then put the ink cartridges (black and all!) back into the printer, close the cover and let the printer prep itself. this worked for me!

Flashing lights.. when i turn power off it just does same thing

All lights flashing indicates a "fatal error" condition, so the printer just needs to be reset:

1. Turn the HP c3180 off.
2. Unplug the power cord.
3. Wait a minute, then plug the power cord
back in.
4. Turn the HP c3180 back on.

This should clear the system error and restore the printer to its "out-of-the-box" default settings.

Error Message: 0xc18a101

The Ox error you are describing is an issue being seen in quite a few hp printers. The only known fix is to try is while the printer is turned on unplug from power source. Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit as well and hold the power button down for 5 seconds to drain any remaining power the printer may be hanging on to. Wait another 30 seconds and plug the cord into the unit first and then directly into the wall - not a surge protector or power strip.

After you have plugged it back in if the error message comes back up then it is a fatal error within the printer. Call hp and see if they have any upgrade units available - usually refurbished but they come with a 1 yr warranty and are significantly cheaper than buying a new unit from the store. They will also take your unit and pay to have it returned to go to an environmental recycling facility.
