Cool air coming from vents

The two lines are 1. the hot water coming from your radiator and 2 the return water coming out of the heater core going back to the radiator. If the hose is hot which it should be and the return is less hot which it should be, it sounds like you have an issue with the temp controls part inside the vehicle. It is electronic I think so that is more than likely your problem.

A thermostat that is stuck open will cause there to be no heat. If its closed is when you will run hot or overheat.

Central heating and hot water have suddenly stopped working

not an engineer but maybe a heating compant,, it sounds like you have a relay that has gone bad, you have what we call a winter summer system your domestic water comes from a tank inside the boiler, you might want to think about splitting the system to save you some money in the long run, seperate the water heater from the boiler so you only heat up in the winter, right now you are heating the system that heats your house to get 30 or 40 gals of domestic hot water, it would cost you less by seperating them

Heat only works when it wants to.

could be a heat door in the heater box, or depending on your heater control unit you might try replacing it.
or you can try to flush the heater core.

Does a LG model LDF 6920st have anything way to heat to hot water

Dishwashers do have a water heater element. In fact, it's the same heater that is used for hot dry, but you can switch it off for the drying cycle if you want. Dishwashers heat the water so it will be hot enough to properly clean the dishes. Sorry, you lose the bet.
