Maytag Gemini MER6772 keypad/ovens not working

Maytag Gemini MER6772 Top oven won't work at all. Bottom will turn on using only the 1, 2, or 3 numbers. Lights, timer (both top and bottom) won't work. No fault codes showing. There are two days before Christmas and no on-site repair service is available!! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

The description given is the exact problem I have, the bake and broil options do not work, I can use the Keep Warm (which is only the bottom element) and only the 1, 2, and 3 keys work (even if using the bottom oven)

  • RosanaVic Dec 25, 2007

Keypad does not respond. Bottom oven had been working fine to pre-heat and when timer was pressed the keypad stopped working and now cannot select any bake, broil, cancel or other commands. Clock is working, and numbers show up indicated as temperature when pressed on the keypad but disappear when keypad is no longer pressed. No operating indicators appear regarding the oven elements inside - top or bottom.

No change to keyboard status when the oven breaker is turned off and back on again.

I had same problem, error code F 1-8, shorted keypad. I was so frustrated I went ahead and tore it apart. There was a surprising amount of gunk and moisture between the plastic face and the actual contacts. I cleaned it up and let it dry out. It worked OK for a while, but the seal is not good, and moisture from baking is still getting into it. When it goes bad again, I'm going to take off the plastic face and just press the sensors with a pencil eraser. I'll probably replace the range within the year. No way I'm paying $385 for new pad + installation on 10 year old stove.

Oven does not work. I get an F-1 8 error message

Hi michael_d_fo,

The F1:-8 error code description is Keypad Shorted. Check to see if steam or other moisture is getting into clock assembly. Replace keypad if necessary.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Maytag Gemini Stove Code F1-4 (bottom door won't open)

F-1 error is a Temperature Runaway. It Maytag's way of letting you know that oven overheated. Nothing you have done but it may have shorted out the oven sensor or the keypad. Check the sensor and see if it's closed. If it's okay, replace the keypad.

Maytag Gemini Electric stove fault code F 1-2 when using the oven(s)

The oven temp sensor has gone bad.  F1-2 would be for the lower oven and F1-1 would mean the upper oven.  If you give me the model # from the sticker on the oven I can direct you to a diagram, part #, and price.  These are very easy to replace.  Should be located inside the oven in the upper right or left hand side.  It looks like a silver rod about 4-8 inches long and crimped on the end.  Most of them can be removed from inside the oven by removing the two screws, pull out the sensor (harness and all) plug in the new sensor, put the screws back in and your done.  Some have to be removed from the back of the oven by removing the lower, larger back panel and follow the same process as mentioned above.  Hope this helps.
