Question about Beyond Micro Mobile / 250GB / 7200 / 8MB / Black / USB 2.0 / External 250 GB Hard Drive

It is formatted for fat 32 and will not hold a gig of data. Need to know how to change this. I'm running XP Pro and have installed the driver that shows xp, sorta lost at this point. The unit is brand new, first time to try to use it. All else seems fine.

    When I right clicked on My computer there was no management option, Never found it. I did try again to format again and for some crazy reason, where it did show fat 32 it now showed NTSF. Copied a 7 g file to it and it worked fine. Seems problem is solved.

When installing an ultra large hard disk (bigger than 137gb), you must ensure your BIOS and service packs are up to date.
Operating systems and system BIOS have separate limitations that are related to specific hard drive capacities that affect how your hard drive will be supported.

W2K and XP users must have the latest service packs installed to access more than 137GB.

32GB barrier:
If your BIOS was released before June 1999 your system may stall with drives larger than 32GB. The only solution is to update your BIOS.

Use partitioning software in DOS to create the paritition sizes that you want

You can manage your disk in "Disk Management".
Right click on my computer then click on manage.
Then click on disk management.
There you see unpartition space then create new partition so you can use it.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

I have a maxtor one touch 4 1 TB and I used it for a PC w windows 7. Now I have an apple computer and want to format it so I can read both pc and mac

FAT 32 format can be accessed by both pc and mac. the drive should be already Fat 32 formatted, but still, the files stored from the mac will not be able to be read by windows and visa versa in most situations.

you will run into trouble if you have to fat 32 format it yourself, as windows will only format up to 32 gigs of it in fat 32- you will have to make multiple 32 gig partitions to use the entire drive, and would be unable to keep more than 32 gigs of info per backup or folder, bacause of all the seperate partitions.

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!
Mike
