I have a four prong clothes dryer plug that needs to go in a three prong outlet - 220v. Any ideas?

It's either you convert the 3-prong outlet to 4-prong or the 4-prong cord to 3-prong. But the latter is easier and more feasible. Unplug the dryer then disconnect the 4-prong cord from the dryer. Note that it has red, black, white, and green/yellow wires but sometimes the red and black wires are both replaced by same color wire, usually gray. The red and black wires are lines L1 and L2 reversibly, meaning they can switch places, while the white and green/yellow wires are the neutral line and ground, respectively.

Get yourself a 3-prong cord and note that it has red , black, and white wires but sometimes, like the 4-pronged one, the red and black wires are both replaced by same color wire, usually gray and can also switch places. All you have to do now is connect these 3 wires in the same manner they are connected as 4-prong cord to the terminal block. The wire strapped to the dryer cabinet and connected to the green/yellow wire of the 4-prong cord wire is now left hanging. The last step is to connect this hanging strap wire to the same terminal on the terminal block (center) where the white wire (neutral) is connected and it's done.

It can be observed that converting a 4-prong cord to 3-prong cord is merely joining the neutral line (white) and the ground (green/yellow) thereby reducing the number of prongs from 4 to 3. On the other hand, converting a 3-prong cord to 4-prong cord is merely splitting the neutral line and the ground thereby increasing the number of prongs from 3 to 4. I have a FEQ1442es dryer. I need to change it from a 4 pronged plug to a three prong, as that is what outlet my condo has... Is there any special order etc. in which to attatch the connections on the...

The 4-prong plug has red, black, white, and green/yellow wires while the 3-prong plug has red, black, and white wires. The only difference is the green/yellow (ground) wire of the 4-prong plug which is attached to the dryer cabinet. All you have to do is connect the wires of the 3-prong plug in the same way the same wire colors are connected with the 4-prong plug then connect the terminal on the cabinet, where the green/yellow (ground) wire of the 4-prong plug is formerly connected, to the white wire of the 3-prong plug.

Can you take a dryer that has a 4 prog plug and put a 3 prong plug on it?

Yes, you can put a 3-prong plug in place of the 4-prong plug.

I'm trying to trouble shoot a PC power supply. I want to know which pins to jumper (short) on the EPS12V cable connector (4 pin, 2 yellow, 2 black) to turn the power supply on (on the bench).

hello sir, hi, ITS NOT THE 4PIN You will jumper short to test the power supply, bu the green one to be shorted to the black one. They are located on the 20/24pin power connector.

Brand new dryer threw braker twice, then no heat and timer stopped working. Electrician tightened connections on wires to dryer settings dial, had heat for one load, then same as before. Replacement dryer...

might want to check your dryer outlet. If the terminals are loose in there it could cause you problems. If your dryer plug is a 4 prong you might be loosing one of your 220v legs due to a short . As the dryer runs the wires and connections will heat up and expand , if there is a faulty wire or connection then it may loose connection after a load. could be quite dangerous and a very possible fire risk so i would check it out ASAP . if the outlet is old they sell for about $20 at you local home depot or lowes home improvement. for a 3 prong plug you need to hook up the black and white wires on the brass screws and the copper ground wire to the green screw. in a 4 prong application you hook up the black and red wires to the brass screws, the whit wire t the silver screw and the copper ground wire to the green screw .

If your new dryer is supposed to be a 4 prong plug and you have it with a 3 prong cord then you will run in to issues . The difference being a 4 prong electric dryer is a dual voltage unit where it needs both 220v and 115v to operate correctly, where a 3 prong dryer only has 220v and the earth ground. if your not familiar or comfortable with electricity please call a qualified electrician to come hand handle the work. if not done correctly it can cause fires or possible electrocution
