clear you computer desktop of misc files. then right click on a blank spot on the desktop. select 'properties' then select 'settings' where you will find the video resolution screen. adjust to a higher resolution in one increment. apply, and if it does not look good to you then revert and take another setting up from that one.
this is an easy function to fool with. there will likely be several choices and they often change the correctness of the image as it fits on your particular display aspect ratio (width vs. hight) and the result will be a not very pleasing image due to shrinking or stretching. also, you may find a setting that your monitor does not like for one reason or another. it could cause your image to become unreadable. do nothing if it looks bad or you can't see it clearly, as it will always revert to original settings on its own unless you tell it you like it. so be sure to hesitate if you are not sure. if you select a setting that your monitor or driver can not handle, you might have an unreadable screen, which makes changing it back very hard.

Go to start/control panel/display/settings/adjust your screen resolution to high and then install.
Once installed, change your screen resolution back as low or high as you wish.

Generally screen resolution refers to your computers resolution which is controlled via the control panel of your computer. I would try fiddling with other screen resolutions to see if this helps. This will cause items on your computer to either be larger or smaller than you are used to, but you might find you like it better.
You would go to control panel>display>settings, to adjust this.
I hope this helps.

Sorry this is a late response - I just had the issue with the T1i solutions disc ver. 20.0. on Windows XP
Right click your desktop and select Properties
Go to the Settings Tab
Under "Display" you should see it is selected to your default monitor or Plug and Play monitor.
Under that, you will see Screen Resolution on the left hand side. If the slide bar will not allow you to change this any higher, then at the bottom of the window you will see an option for Advanced
Write down your current screen resolution so you can change it back after installation is complete.
Click on Advanced - You will see tabs at the top - click on the tab marked "Monitor"
This will show you Monitor Type - under thatyou will see Screen Refresh Rate (ex. 60 hertz)
Under that is a check box marked "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display"
Uncheck this box and click "OK"
This will take you back to the screen resolution and you can change it from there. Change it to 1024x780 - this is the minimum display resolution for the installation disk.
When you have installed the software, you will want to change it back to your normal resolution
Note - if you want to use the EOS utility to download and edit your pictures, you will need to change it back to 1024x780. I just use the Windows Camera/Scanner wizard to download, and then use Adobe to edit the photos.
Hope this helps!
