Hi I'm Tony from the Philippines and I have a Compaq presario f756nr notebook pc (to be exact), i want to reformat my laptop and the problem i am facing now is that when i try to use my cd/dvd rom drive to...

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the details you have mentioned. The steps you have taken are correct and if the System/ hardware is ok, it should boot from CD Drive. Whenever i have faced such an issue, i always started afresh to check each hardware (CD, DVD, ROM, Hard Disk, Cables, Connections etc) and most of the times the issue was optical drive or CD/DVDs.

So, I recommend that make sure that the CD/DVD ROM is functioning properly. When the system is set to boot from CD/DVD, it must try to read CD/DVD after power on. It is indicated by spinning of the optical drive and blinking CD ROM LED. If there is a bootable CD in the drive, it should boot. You may try to boot the system through DOS bootable CD. Also, if you still have the OS on your system, you may check the CD ROM through windows.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

I need to connect a external cdrom to a netbook that only has a usb connection, need wiring diagram or pinout?

Connect the external CD-ROM drive to the computer using the appropriatecable. Most modern drives will use a USB cable but some older ones may use aserial or parallel cable for this connection. The cable, regardless of type, will only connect in one way and should not be forced. If the external CD-ROMdrive has a separate power supply, connect that at this time as well to anelectrical outlet.
Power up the computer as you normally would. Depending on your operating systemand the make and model of the drive you are installing, the system mayrecognize and install the appropriate drivers for you. If this happens you willbe notified with a pop-up window or message box.Install the manufacturer's drivers for the external CD-ROM drive. This isrecommended even if your operating system found the device and installedgeneric drivers for you. This will help optimize the use of the device withyour system.
Reboot the computer system to ensure that all drivers have completed theinstallation process and that the operating system recognizes the externalCD-ROM drive. You can now test the drive by inserting a CD-ROM and trying toaccess it through the My Computer icon on your desktop.

Dvd rom not reading cds/dvds

I had similar problem on a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop, I simply had to reconnect DVD drive. It usually loosing it's connection with motherboard and drive is visible in My Computer but it doesn't recognize any discs. If reconnection does not solve your issue you may try to update your DVD firmware and if it won't help replace DVD drive. Good Luck!
