Question about Mr. Heater (F274825)

Will not ignite with hose and 20 lb tanked connected but runs on 1 lb tanks. tested hose and gas flows freely when i depress end of hose tip inside hose

Big buddy Heater - 20 lb tanks won't keep pilot lit,


I had the same problem I called tech support and they said to turn the valve on the 20# cylinder on very slowly for the first 1/4 turn then all will be fine. There is an excessive flow check valve that causes restricted flow when the valve is opened quickly----------mine works fine now

Emberglow ventless gas logs (set to burn on porpane gas). Pilot lights, but not logs.


It needs 14'' wc to work , hose could be too small for load .

Removal of gas tank


Fuel Tank Assembly Removal & Installation Single Tank To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section
  2. Relieve fuel system pressure (See: Fuel System Relieving)
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable
  4. Raise and support the vehicle
  5. Drain the fuel tank in an approved container
  6. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • evaporative emission (EVAP) canister Disconnect fuel lines for single tank gm_trk_sub15_fuel_line_rem_singl_tnk.gif

    • Chassis fuel lines (B) at the fuel tank (A)
      1. Cap the fuel and EVAP lines to prevent possible fuel system contamination
      Disconnect EVAP vent line gm_trk_sub15_evap_vent_line_rem.gif

    • EVAP vent line at the fuel tank clip (E) Disconnect vent hose and filler hose gm_trk_sub15_vent_filler_hoses.gif

    • Vent hose and filler hose clamp (D, B)
    • Vent hose and filler hose from the line

  7. With the aid of an assistant or a suitable jack support the fuel tank
  8. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel tank strap attaching bolts
    • Fuel tank straps
  9. Carefully lower the rear of the fuel tank slightly
  10. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel sender cover Fuel tank connections gm_trk_sub15_fuel_tank_conn.gif

    • Fuel sender and the fuel pressure sensor electrical connectors
    • Fuel tank
  11. Place the fuel tank in a suitable work area Fuel lines at the tank gm_trk_sub15_fuel_lines_at_tank.gif

  12. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel feed and return lines (C) from the fuel sender and the retaining clips
    • Fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank
    • EVAP line from the fuel tank roll over valves (B, D) and the retaining clips (A)
    • Fuel fill hose and the vent hose from the fuel tank
    • Fuel tank
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • EVAP line to the fuel tank roll over valves and the retaining clips
    • Fuel pump assembly to the fuel tank
    • Fuel feed and return lines to the fuel sender and the retaining clips
    • Fuel fill hose and the vent hose to the fuel tank; torque hose clamps,
      1. Torque to: 22 lb-in. (2.5 Nm)
  2. With the aid of an assistant or a suitable jack support and partially raise the fuel tank front end first
  3. Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel sender and the fuel pressure sensor electrical connectors
    • Fuel sender cover
  4. Fully raise the fuel tank
  5. Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel tank straps
    • Install the fuel tank strap attaching bolts;
      1. Torque to 30 lb-ft. (40 Nm)
    • Fuel fill hose and the vent hose to the lines;
      1. Torque hose clamp to 22 lb-in. (2.5 Nm)
  6. Torque the vent hose clamp,
    • Torque to: 22 lb-in. (2.5 Nm)
  7. Connect the EVAP vent line to the fuel tank clip
  8. Remove the caps from the fuel and EVAP lines
  9. Install or connect the following:
    • chassis fuel lines at the fuel tank
    • EVAP canister
  10. Lower the vehicle to the ground
  11. Fill the fuel tank with clean fuel
  12. Install the fuel filler cap
  13. Connect the negative battery cable
  14. Use the following procedure to inspect for leaks:
    • Turn the ignition on for two seconds
    • Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds
    • Turn the ignition on
    • Inspect for fuel leaks
  15. Install the engine sight shield
  16. Road test the vehicle to check performance

My Mr Heater Buddy heater 4000 to 9000 btu unit work fine with 1 lb propane tank but when I connect it to my 20 lb tank with hose it will not stay lit. Acts like there is not enough gas pressure. My 20 lb...


it could be down to the draw off the tank pipe too small or reg is not for a 20lb tank , going to lock out check reg pressure should say on the side , or take hoes and reg off tank , put it back on and turn gas on slowly see if this helps

Grill is one old and won't light. There is no gas coming from the tank to the grill. Is it the regulator?


age of the grill is irrelevant, i am old and i still can do few thingzzzz...

i assume that your regulator is connected directly to the bottle, then hose to your bottle, then hose is connected to the regulator and other end to the grill?

or it is bottle, hose, regulator, grill?

you need to follow the path regardless, be outside, light breeze is better, no open flame in at least 20m (yards) radius in any direction.

1. close gas bottle/tank
2. disconnect, everything from the bottle
3. crack open tank valve and hear if gas is escaping, close valve back
4. connect regulator to the bottle and again crack open the valve, hear if you have esacping gas, allow actually whiff of gas against your cheek or wetted finger to establish the flow. close the valve
5. connect hose to the regulator (procedure is reversed if first is hose and then regulator), crack open the valve, hear for escaping gas, check against wetted finger and cheek if there is flow, close the valve
6. connect your grill open all valves on it and open valve on the tank/bottle. allow free flow for about 30sec, close valves on grill. vent grill for about two minutes, try to ignite any of the burners. if burner ignite, you solved the problem, if they do not, and you did have flow on all previous stages, close bottle valve, disconnect everything from grill, clean grill valves and nozzles (burner have nozzle inside!), reconnect and vent again, try ignite, if ignition occures, you solve the problem, if not, then you are due for new grill...

if at any stage you do not have gas flow, this meant that this particular piece of equipment is in trouble, this particular piece of equipment need then repair or replacement, under no circumstance pull apart the reducer! NO OPEN FLAME DURING TESTING!!!
