A piece fell out when I was emptying the bin and I can't figure out where it goes. Gray, about 4 inches long, strait with small pegs down one side.

It sounds as if this is the piece desinged to scrape lint from the screen on the filter cartridge holder. There should be two slots near the top of the dirt cup, about in the middle, that this piece snaps into, with the pegs facing the filter.

A sponge fell into the vent of my dryer. How do I get it out. Is it safe to run the dryer with the sponge in the vent hose?

If the sponge fell down inside where your lint filter goes, that could be a problem. It is entirely possible that the sponge was blown out of the machine and there is no problem at all. But, if you cannot retrieve it with a clothes hanger or anything like that, you will have to take the dryer apart. So yes, the sponge could cause a clog and clogs are bad. The hot air must be able to get out of the dryer and blown outside with the least resistance possible.

Taking the dryer apart. UNPLUG the dryer from the wall. Pull the dryer away and get behind. Remove the dryer vent and back panel (8 1/4 inch screws). On the left is the lint chute where the sponge could possibly be. Simply remove the 4-6 1/4 screws and take the chute out. Look inside for the obstruction :) If it is nowhere to be found, it made it out of the dryer. Check the vent behind the dryer and the exit of the house. If it is nowhere to be found it could be inside the vent going to the outside of your house. The vent needs to be cleaned at that point to get the sponge out.

Where is the filter?

To find the filter you need to do the following steps. Find your lint trap. Lint traps in washing machines can be in the agitator (the large plastic piece in the center of the tub), at the top of the washer on the rim of the tub, or attached to the washing machine's drainage hose. Pull out the agitator tube to check for the lint trap. Peel any loose lint from the filter. Scrub away lint that doesn't peel off easily with a heavy-duty paper towel or a wet sponge. Feel your way around the top rim of the washing machine's basin. If you locate a trap, pull it straight out of the machine. Peel away loose lint and follow up with a wet sponge or heavy-duty paper towel. Check your machine's drainage hose for an attached lint trap. Remove the trap and peel the top layer of lint off. Rinse the trap in low-pressure, warm water. Reattach to the drainage hose. Check for and remove any lint or debris that may have dropped into the washing machine basin during the cleaning.

Lint fell down the lint trap. How do I get it

Luckily, dryers are light. Best thing to do is pull it out until you can remove the back cover. (unplug it first) Then vacuum and clean all the dust and lint you can. This should be a yearly thing at least anyway. Replace the back plug it in and slid it back. I do mine every 6 months or so.

Sponge fell into lint trap. Is there something I can buy to put down the lint trap to try and get it out?

Surely you should be able to remove lint trap, or you would not be able to clean it!!!!.
Otherwise try a piece of wire with a hook on the end , and retrieve it that way.

Plastic piece fell down lint slot

You can take it apart however you need to be careful.

You will need a vacuum. socket set and other hand tools.

First unplug the unit, now pull it away from the wall
remove the back panel remembering once you remove any panel you will be exposed to sharp edges.

on your left facing the rear of the dryer is the vent work to the fan motor, you need to remove this, your attachment should be inside this piece. If you have to remove any wires label them well with masking tape, and some ID system you can remember

Use your dustbuster and vaccuum out all the lint and other fall out, make sure the venting is in good working condition replace as needed.

Reassemble as needed.

Increased drying time; removal of lint behind tumbler ???

I have a top loading Kenmore High capacity dryer that is over 10 years old, it has been working very well, unfortunately when cleaning the lint filter my wife dropped a piece of paper down the lint duct hole. The paper evidently fell to the bottom of the lint duct. I am unable to reach the paper from the top of the dryer where the lint filter is inserted. The dryer now makes a grinding type noise when it is turned on. Can you tell me how to reach the paper and remove it

Whirlpool top loader 9 kg - I can't see any serial no.

There are no lint filters on this machine. The lint is pumped out with the water. There may be a restriction in the drain line starting where it connects to the tub or the small drain holes in the inner tub may be clogged.
