Can the drum bearing be renewed

Hello, W/D here.

Of course it can! If someone can put it together, you can get it apart.

Here's a link to another site where this problem has already been tackled.
http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=22035
One thing I liked about this site is that there was an ad for bearings on the page, and might help you also. Bearings are also available at a source called Motion Industries and WW Grangier. Hotpoint vendors may have a supply on hand as well. All you'll need is the number stamped onto the bearing race to get a suitable replacement. Sales shops that also provide service may tell you that the bearings and tub assemblies have to be sold as a unit, as the bearings may be rubber coated, but this isn't true. You can purchase any bearing required from the sources listed, or by performing a google search with the bearing number and selecting a source near you. A word to the wise; replace both bearings!
Best regards, --W/D--

Drive belt snapped what is the cause

There are a couple of reasons for belt snapping.

1-Main drum bearings siezed, thereby caosing excessive friction, and belt to snap.
2-Motor siezed up, again causing excessive frictional wear on belt.
Try spinning drum by hand, it should be free, with no noise from it, if it runbles or feels rough, then drum bearings have failed.
3- Drum pulley loose or cracked, check the pulley for cracks or fractures.

I have a hotpoint wma22. problem with it does not spin. The belt is ok .

+I would remove the motor and check the brushes for wear.
If they are less than 3 or 4mm long, thet need replacing.
If brushes o/k, then it is probably a control module fault.
I am of course assuming that the washer has drained the water out, or it will not spin.

Our hotpoint WMA22 washer will fill with water and wash but will not drain.i have lowered the drain hose to almost ground level and it will empty the water, and then will spin. In your opinion is it the...

Sounds like a blocked filter to me.
Remove lower rear panel of washer, remove large black hose fastened to bottom of drum, remove and clean filter inside hose, check pump for blockage at same time. You probably will not need to replace any parts
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Fix main bearing

On every front-loading washing machine which I've replaced the main bearing on, it's normally removed and refitted using a suitable sized drift and a club hammer. Most of the time i find a trusty one foot length of scaffold tube which is in my toolbox does the trick.

If the washing machine has a polypropylene outer drum rather than a steel one then it's rare that the drum doesn't break whilst attempting the repair. On these types I've usually fitted a used drum from a scrapped machine, or more frequently just replaced the entire machine with another used machine which has been thrown away with a silly little problem like a blocked or broken pump.

Hotpoint wma22 fills with water but won't wash or spin

Suspect motor brushes need replacing.
Simple task accessed by removing the top of the washer and releasing the clips holding the brushes into the motor - clip on back of brush - to remove the brush assembly.
Replace complete brush assembly.

if the drum is tight to turn ,then the main bearings have probably seized, or their could be something fast in the drum. Remove belt, and try to turn the drum by hand , it shuold be free with no resitance.
If it is noisy or feels rough, then the bearings have gone.

How to change drum bearings on hotpoint first edition washing machine model wma22

Right - all washing machines are pretty similar except between manufacturers such as Dyson, who use such things as three seperate drums.

The average washing machine is simply a motor attached by a belt to a drum, with a programming unit that connects to a door sensor and heating element, and a seal that goes around the drum.

Since we are dealing with Hotpoint, the first thing to do is take off all panels from the front, the top, and the back.

From the front: You will be able to see your drum, and should be able to undo the seal. Basically at this point, unscrew everything attached to whatever I describe - remembering where they go. Now the front seal is sometimes attached to the case that surrounds the drum - usually with a heating element attached to it on some models.

From the back: You will see the belt attached to a flywheel that turns the drum. Rotate the drum to check that the rumbling / banging noise is still occurring. Check that the drive belt isn't damaged or worn as this can cause problems. Unscrew the huge bolt that holds the flywheel on to the drum (rotate anti-clockwise). This will usually take a lot of force and is better to use a large spanner, lock it in place, and turn the actual drum with your hands if you can't undo it. Now when this comes off, you will be able to pull the drum free. Move it around until it comes away. The bearings may drop off the drum's shaft so retrieve them. Check to see if they fall apart as this indicates the bearing's seal has gone totally. This is the part to replace. Buy a replacement the exact same size for your model of washing machine and reassemble - ensuring that all screws go back in the right place.

Hope this helps. Remember that it is just a case of unscrewing things in the right order. You learn best by just doing - so if you are mechanically minded - this sort of thing will be a doddle. If you get stuck and can't remember how to reassemble it - call out a repair man and watch how he fixes it as this will of course allow you to try it if it goes bad again ( a common problem I've been told with Hotpoint and Zanussi models since they are manufactured using cheaper parts than others. )
